The Huskies led 30-23 after one quarter. A buzzer three pointer by Hurricanes Roosevelt Whyley tied the game at 43-43 heading into the locker room. The Hurricanes led 67-64 after three quarters. Having played less than 90 seconds total in the previous two games, Hurricanes captain Ali Abdulaziz came off the bench to play a solid 22 minutes contributing 13 points. In the final, the 4th-seeded NAIT Ooks edged the 2nd-seeded Humber Hawks 79-74. “When I graduated from high school (C.B. Walker High School, Nassau/Paradise Island) I did not have a passport because both of my parents were born in Hatti,” Tournament MVP, Ooks guard and Bahamas-native Jackson Jacob told the CCAA. “It was a long process to get one (passport) to come to Canada. So, for a few years I worked as a mechanic at my stepfather’s garage and played in the local men’s league. It was frustrating, because my dream was to come to North America and play basketball and get an education. … It’s a dream come true. It is finally here. All the hard work paid off. Coach had us prepared for every game like he always does.” Sebastian Cava was chosen player of the game for the Ooks, while Ancil Martin earned the laurels for the Hawks.
