In the quarterfinals, the top-seeded Holland Hurricanes dusted the 8th-seeded Medicine Hat Rattlers 80-63. Medicine Hat’s Pietro de Andrade scored the first bucket to ignite a 9-0 Rattlers run to start the affair. Two free throws finally got the Hurricanes going 3:30 into the game, although they trailed 22-17 after the first quarter. But Holland turned things around to lead 39-30 at half time. Langara regained a 75-70 lead but Lamar Barr reeled of three treys and a bucket to give the Mountaineers an 81-75 lead. Langara pecked away at the Mohawk lead and made it 86-85 for Mohawk with 31.8 seconds on the clock. The Falcons missed a shot and the Mountaineers knocked the ball out of bounds with just 2.4 seconds left. Langara got the ball to Jitinder Lohcham, who felt he was fouled on the way up for a shot, but the officials didn’t see it that way and the game ended with a ruckus under the basket. Matt Fennell was chosen player of the game for the Mountaineers, while Jitinder Lohcham earned the laurels for the Falcons.         In the final, the 4th-seeded Humber Hawks defeated the 2nd-seeded Vancouver Island Mariners 68-62 to capture their 7th CCAA crown. Humber led 17-15 after the first quarter. The teams were tied 34-34 at the half, and Humber led 52-49 after three quarters. Tournament MVP Vule Grujic was the award was secondary. “The coach called my number down the stretch and he felt confident in me scoring and let me have the ball and I just brought us there.” Hawks coach Shawn Collins said both teams competed really hard. “I thought it was going to be a defensive struggle. Both teams are athletic. Justin King is an unbelievable player and we had to slow him down as much as we could, control the boards and it would give us a chance to win down the stretch.” Vule Grujic paced the Hawks with 16 on 5-10 from the floor, 0-1 from the arc, 6-8 from the line and 6 boards.
