In the quarterfinals, the Mount Allison Mounties crushed the St. Thomas Tommies 63-48 as Jenna Tracey scored 18, Brittany Carter 14, Sarah Sutherland 10 and Shannon Parlee 8. Alica Sterling led St. Thomas with 8. Hayley Doney added 7, Sara Laurie 6 and Kathryn Walters 6. The Tommies (coached by Fred Connors, assisted by Dan Graf and Chris Barrington) also included Melissa Russwurm, Kerrin Everett, Mali Coulombe, Pam Carvell, Karen O’Rourke, Amy Andow, Ana MacPherson, Tara Peterson, Sara Laurie and Sarah MacAvoy.
In the other quarterfinal, the Nova Scotia Agricultural College Rams whipped the University of New Brunswick-Saint John Seawolves 68-56 as Danielle Devoe scored 15, Kaili Van Vulpen 12, Patti Gilroy 10 and Kelsey Harpman 10. Julie Edwards led UNBSJ with 21. Brandy Jones added 18 and Sarah Wilkes 7. The Seawolves (coached by Mark Palmer, assisted by Martina Shannon) also included Crystal Jacob, Alexandra Hickey, Janet Palmer, Emily Brown, Jill Balser, Julie Edwards, Katie Titus, Alexandra Hickey, Nicole Campbell, Emily Stackhouse, Diane Debly, Crystal Jacob and Erin Sproul.
In the semis, the top-seeded Mount Saint Vincent Mystics defeated the 5th-seeded Mount Allison Mounties 65-41 as Jenna Dunn scored 17, Shannon Labre 15, Jen Kendrick 14, Katherine Brien 12, Erin Zinck 2, and Shelagh Abriel 2 The Mystics led 32-20 at the half. Jenna Tracey paced the Mounties with 13. Shannon Parlee added 11, Brittany Carter 7, Sarah Sutherland 4, Sarah Trenholm 2, Kristin Atkins 2 and Meagan Wood 2.
In the other semi, the 2nd-seeded King’s Blue Devils dumped the 3rd-seeded Nova Scotia Agricultural College Rams 59-40 as Erin Bohan scored 25, Becky Melvin 8, Lia Milito 5, Robin Smith 5 and Leanne Crossman 5. Kaili Van Vulpen led NSAC (athletic director Judy Smith) with 13. Jessica Mitchell added 7 and Patti Gilroy 6.
In the final, the top-seeded Mount St. Vincent Mystics dumped the 2nd-seeded King’s Blue Devils 53-36 as Katherine Brien scored 12, Jenna Dunn 11, Sarah Rudderham 9 and Erin Zinck 8. Erin Bohan paced King’s with 10. Leanne Crossman added 7, Annie Kingston 6 and Becky Melvin 5. The Mystics led 30-22 at the half. The win was part of a women’s-men’s double for the Mystics, who head into nationals with a 46-0 record. “Both teams stuck together all year, so it feels amazing to celebrate this together,” Mystics forward Jenna Dunn told the Halifax Daily News. “We all worked extremely hard.” Mystics coach Dyrick McDermott said “when you play great defence, you’ll be in every game, and that was the best defensive showing against any top-five team in our conference all year. King’s is a talented offensive team, but every possession was like a dogfight, and we fought every battle hard. It shows great character for us.”
