In the final, the top-seeded Holland Hurricanes whipped the 3rd-seeded Mount St. Vincent Mystics 94-68.
“We were really excited to get to play them again” and avenge a regular season loss, Hurricanes coach Josh Whitty told the Charlottetown Guardian. “We weren’t happy with the way we played last time we seen them. We wanted to go out and sort of showcase the way we think we’re capable of playing.” The Hurricanes held an 18-16 advantage with 2:38 left in the first quarter. They didn’t let the Mystics score for the next four minutes and after a 12-0 run the Hurricanes led 27-16 after one quarter. They led 43-30 at the half and 64-45 after three quarters. “Trevone Grant was out of his mind. He played excellent,” Whitty said. “He played like the MVP of the league should.” Travis Adams paced the Hurricanes with 22 on 8-14 from the floor, 1-4 from the arc, 5-6 from the line, 10 boards and 2 assists. Trevone Grant added 20 on 7-15 from the floor, 6-10 from the line, 10 boards and 3 steals. Stephon Smith notched 17 on 7-10 from the floor, 3-4 from the line and 2 boards. After the season, Duane Starratt resigns from the helm of Mount Allison. He is replaced by Stephen Chapman, who previously served at the helm of the Mounties from 1992-2000. A graduate of Mount Allison, he played for the Mounties from 1978-1982. “We consider it a huge win for our program to introduce Coach Chapman as our new head coach,” Mount Allison director of athletics and recreation Pierre Arsenault told the Sackville Tribune Post. “Coach Chapman is a Mountie in every sense of the word and he has a great sense of how we will build a championship program at Mount Allison.” Chapman had been serving as coach of Bernice MacNaughton High.
