In the quarterfinals, the Mount Allison Mounties nipped the Holland Hurricanes 68-67. The Hurricanes led 13-7, 29-24 and 46-41 at the quarters. Kevin Monaghan paced the Mounties with 12. Brandon Malally added 20, along with 10 boards, Akil Smith 13, Nolan Hanson 7, Benjamin Chisholm 4 and Tim Crouse 1, while Trevor Mann was scoreless. The Mounties hit 28-63 (.444) from the floor, 5-16 (.313) from the arc and 7-14 from the line, while garnering 31 boards, including 5 on the offensive glass, 8 assists, 16 turnovers, 3 blocks, 10 steals and 12 fouls. Matthew Morrison paced the Hurricanes with 20. Leo Morris added 19, along with 11 boards, Alvin Parker 11, Jamie Gray 9, Jordan Bruyere 6 and Alex MacLeod 2, while Brendan Holmes and Randez Simmons and Corey Hollett were scoreless. The Hurricanes hit 29-67 (.433) from the floor, 2-20 (.100) from the arc and 7-9 (.778) from the floor, while garnering 38 boards, including 8 on the offensive glass, 17 assists, 19 turnovers, 7 steals and 11 fouls. The Hurricanes (coached by George Morrison, assisted by Chris Connolly and Josh Whitty) also included Mark Barrett, Kyle Bell, Damon Downey, Jeff Gallant, Jamie Gray and Kevin Hinsey.

        In the other quarterfinal, the University of King’s College Blue Devils dumped the Crandall University Blue Tide 82-71. King’s coach Chad Wadden said that in a quarterfinal, “some people will be a little bit more aggressive going to the basket and when that happens people can get out of position which lends to a higher foul count.” Blue Devil JD Howlett said the turning point of the game was coming out in the first five minutes after the half. “Coming out in the second half we are usually pretty stagnant but getting to the net quickly is important.” The first quarter was dominated by fouls – six for the Blue Devils and for against the Chargers. The Devils took an early lead in the first half but had many missed shots. The Devils finished off the first quarter with a 26-12 lead. The second quarter began with a three-point shot by Chargers player Joe Kendrick. The Chargers gained three more points during foul shots in the next minutes of the game. With 4:59 left in the second the Chargers called a timeout. They trailed 37-31 at half time. In the third quarter the Blue Devils extended their lead 42-33. Kendrick sunk his second three-pointer for the team but was outplayed by the Blue Devils. Howlett quickly gained a three-pointer for the Devils and then another for teammate Colin Beddington. At the end of the third the Blue Devils lead 65-54. Into the last quarter the Chargers Taylor Norum stole the ball in a massive jump but missed the shot. With seven minutes left UKC lead 68-57. With one minute left in the game the Chargers fought for another basket. They trailed by eight points. With 34 seconds left in the game a confident Blue Devils player Eamon Morrissy missed both foul shots. J.D. Howlett paced the Blue Devils with 28 points and 18 boards. Alex MacKillop added 24, Colin Bebbington 12, Jeff Inglis 8, Thomas Watson 6 and Eamon Morrissey 4, while Eyoab Begashaw, Riley Chisholm, Mohamed Ibrahin and Stephen Traynor were scoreless. The Blue Devils hit 28-69 (.406) from the floor, 9-21 (.429) from the arc and 17-27 (.630) from the line, while garnering 46 boards, including 12 on the offensive glass, 5 assists, 20 turnovers, 3 blocks, 7 steals and 23 fouls. Jake Kendrick paced the Blue Tide (coached by Matt Sweezey) with 22 points and 12 boards. The Blue Tide hit 28-74 (.378) from the floor, 4-17 (.235) from the arc and 11-18 (.611) from the line, while garnering 44 boards, including 12 on the offensive glass, 5 assists, 20 turnovers, 3 blocks, 7 steals and 23 fouls.

        In the semis, the Mount St. Vincent Mystics dusted the Mount Allison Mounties 74-50 after leading 19-9, 36-24 and 60-39 at the quarters. With less than 24-seconds to go, the Mounties were forced to foul the Hurricanes and put them on the line. Matt Morrison went 2-2 in his first trip to the line giving Holland a three-point lead. The Mounties then drove hard to the basket and guard Nolan Hanson got the score back to one-point. Morrison was again fouled this time hitting one of his two free-throws. The Mounties quickly inbounded the ball, pushed it down the floor and Kevin Monaghan found Brandon Malally in the corner. Malally then knocked down the clutch three-pointer giving MTA a one-point lead over Holland College. With three-seconds to go the Hurricanes pushed the ball down the court and Alex MacLeod got up a three at the buzzer, but came up short sealing the win for the Mounties. Karl Fredrick paced the Mystics with 17. Luke Reynolds added 14, Brandon Doyle 14, Graham Carter 10, Ryan Smith 6, Kenneth Reardon 5, Derico Symonds 4, Alex LeBlanc 2 and Jeremy Skidmore 2, while Todd Williams, Mac Ellis and Josh Thomas were scoreless. The Mystics hit 31-65 (.477) from the floor, 4-13 (.308) from the arc and 8-13 (.615) from the line, while garnering 31 boards, including 19 on the offensive glass, 17 assists, 12 turnovers, 3 blocks, 12 steals and 10 fouls.         In the other semi, the St. Thomas Tommies defeated the University of King’s College Blue Devils 64-59. The Tommies led 18-13 after one quarter. The Blue Devils led 29-28 at the half and 53-45 after three quarters. Nathan Mazurkiewicz paced the Tommies with 23. Will Kowalsky added 11, Richard Wilkins 11, MacKenzie Washburn 9, Calvin LeBlanc 6, David Dolan 2 and Brent Kingston 2, while Corey DeLong was scoreless. The Tommies hit 24-66 (.364) from the floor, 4-21 (.190) from the arc and 12-15 (.800) from the line, while garnering 42 boards, including 17 on the offensive glass, 7 assists, 22 turnovers, 2 blocks, 11 steals and 11 fouls. J.D. Howlett paced the Blue Devils with 26 points and 10 boards.         In the final, the St. Thomas Tommies clipped the Mount St. Vincent Mystics 70-63 in overtime. The Mystics led 15-10 after one quarter and 25-19 at the half. The Tommies led 41-38 after three quarters. The score was knotted at 59 after regulation play. With three minutes to go, Brandon Doyle hit a big three with the shot-clock winding down to give MSVU a seven-point lead. The Tommies didn’t miss a beat, bouncing back with a big bucket and then forcing MSVU into two consecutive turnovers. With 2.8 seconds left the Tommies had the ball down three and inbounding under the basket in the offensive end. Tommies coach Dwight Dickinson called a timeout and drew up a play to attempt to tie the game. It looked as though the play was drawn up for all-star Nathan Mazurkiewicz. The ball however was inbounded to Corey Delong. Delong caught the inbounds pass and before even squaring up to the basket fired an off-balance 3-pointer at the rim. It was nothing but net for Delong, forcing overtime. In the extra period it was all Tommies. Delong was feeling it hitting a big bucket to start overtime. The Mystics missed some key free throws in the extra period that helped seal the win for the Tommies. Dickinson said “this is what you coach for. These players will take this with them forever. It’s really such a great feeling and I couldn’t be happier for our guys. We have struggled with injuries all year and we’re starting to get healthy now. We’ll enjoy this, but we’re going to prepare hard to do well at nationals.” Nathan Mazurkiewicz paced the Tommies with 18 on 5-17 from the floor, 3-9 from the arc, 5-8 from the line, 6 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals. Calvin LeBlanc added 15 on 7-12 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc, 8 boards, 2 assists and 2 blocks. Brent Kingston scored 11 on 4-6 from the floor, 3-6 from the line, 11 boards and 3 assists.
