In the final, the Mount St. Vincent Mystics dumped the Holland Hurricanes 72-55 after leading 20-9, 36-27 and 52-37 at the quarters. “We played a real solid game but the real difference maker was defence,” said coach Rick Plato, in his 22nd season at the helm of the MSVU men. “In the semis we gave up 46 points and today 55. You win it with defence and rebounding and we did a good job with both. … We got off to a good start, let them back in it a little bit but still led by nine at halftime,” said Plato, who has guided the Mystics to 12 championships. “Holland had beaten us earlier in the year and we knew they were going to be tough. But we stressed defence all week and we really did play good defence in both games. And Luke Reynolds was really big on the boards. It was nice to have him back after having him out for three months with a stress fracture in his foot.” The win was also especially significant for graduating seniors Steve Morris, Kyle Wickstrom and Jewkes. “Morris played at Sackville, Wickstrom at Lockview and Jewkes at Cobequid and it was the fifth straight championship for all three,” said Plato, in his 22nd year at the helm. “Everybody played tough and our experience was a big factor in the win.” Sean Boulay paced Mount Saint Vincent with 16 on 6-10 from the floor, 4-6 from the line, 4 boards and 3 assists. Adam Jewkes added 15 on 5-8 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc, 4-6 from the line, 2 boards, 2 assists and 2 steals.
