In the quarterfinals, the 3rd-seeded University of King’s College Blue Devils clipped the 6th-seeded Atlantic Baptist Blue Tide 84-65 as Aaron Carpenter scored 18. Bannon Morrisy added 12. Chris Leger paced Atlantic Baptist with 18. Nick Carter added 15 and Nick Earle 12. The Blue Tide (coached by Jamie Small, assisted by Dwayne Ellis) also included Josh Walton, Mitch Grondin, Peter Graves, Scott Black, Dave Parks, Jeff Vass and Mario Cormier.
In the other quarterfinal, the 5th-seeded University of New Brunswick-Saint John Seawolves dumped the 4th-seeded St. Thomas Tommies 73-65 as Adam Belyea scored 16, Colin Johnston 15, Jon Tallis 13 and Alex Walsh 12. Dan Budd led the Tommies with 23. Allison MacKay added 13 and Matt Robertson 12. The Tommies (coached by Dwight Dickinson, assisted by Scott MacLeod) also included Calen Outhouse, Barry Larocque, Jay Walsh, Andrew Holmes, Bruce Colwell, Peter Goggin, Brendon Campbell, Matt Sweezey, Ryan Squires and Alex McPherson.
In the semis, the top-seeded Mount St. Vincent Mystics crushed the 5th-seeded UNB-Saint John Seawolves 66-46 as Damian Gay scored 22, Adam Jewkes 10 and Brendon Arnold 9. Alex Rivers-Bowerman led UNB-Saint John with 11. Jon Tallis added 11 and Troy Curtis 10. The Mystics trailed by eight in the first half.
In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded King’s Blue Devils stunned the 2nd-seeded Mount Allison Mounties 72-70 as Alex Doley scored 18, Lucas Adekola 14, John Good 12 and Aaron Carpenter 12. Doyle Anthony led Mount Allison with 20. Dennis Hopper added 13, Josh Graham 11 and Matt Finnis 11.
In the final, the top-seeded Mount St. Vincent Mystics clipped the 3rd-seeded King’s Blue Devils 79-53 as league player of the year Damian Gay scored 22, Ibrahaim Toulany 15, Mark Brien 14 and Jason Carlson 11. Aaron Carpenter led King’s with 16. Lucas Adekola added 15 and Alex Doley 5. The Mystics led 34-29 at the half and opened the second frame with a 9-0 run. “We were really prepared for King’s today,” said forward Brendon Arnold. “Yesterday we came out too hyped, but today we calmed down, took our time and things started to work.” Mystics coach Rick Plato told the Halifax Daily News that “we could tell they were tired, but our depth and rebounding was key. I can’t say enough about how great everyone played.”
