Angela Leischner paced the Queens with 10. Gilles Bell added 8, Courtney Fraser 6 and Lynsay Hurd 6. Queens coach Pat Rawlusyk told the Red Deer Advocate that “we played so well on the defensive end then didn’t run our offence at all. We didn’t get the ball to people who have to score for us, like Noree (Claerhout) and Gilles (Bell) didn’t take near enough shots.” Rawlusyk added that when Lynsay Hurd fouled out with nine minutes to play “that really hurt. We seemed to collapse then.” …………………………………………………… In game two, Mount Royal pounded Red Deer 59-41 as Sarah Nibler scored 13 and Candace McMaster 13. The Cougars led 27-23 at the half. Cougars coach Avery Harrison told the Red Deer Advocate that “you have to give Red Deer creit, they played us extremely tough and forced us to do some things we don’t like doing. But we played strong defensively, which was a key.” Noree Clearhout led the Queens with 11. Courtney Fraser added 10. The Queens also included Meagan Nolin, Courtney Fraser, Gilles Bell, Mandy Nevakshanoff, Rayna Robinson, Angela Leischner, Lindsay Payne, Lynsay Hurd, Jessica Clevette, J’anna Aitchison and Angela Lajeunese. Queens coach Pat Rawlusyk said that “they finally worked hard for 40 minutes. They kept their heads in it and did a very good job defensively against a very good team. What we needed was a scorer. When we lost Angela (Lajeunesse) at Christmas, we lost 20 points a game and could never replace that.”

And we did.” The Griffins rallied down the stretch on a pair of critical field goals by reserve Tamara Edwards and a trey by Brandie Speers that cut the margin to 63-61 with four minutes to play but got no closer.
