Hunter told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “they were running with us today. In fac, they’re probably the only team that’s run with us for an entire game. Usually teams peter out after 10 minutes but they stayed with us. … They took the baseline away from us but left the middle open.” The Wolves led 33-23 at the half. Wolves coach Patrick McDonald said “I thought our girls looked tired in the first half. I thought they were mentally drained after Friday night. But one thing I really like about these kids is that they do it when they have to do it.” Kudus coach Frank Behrens said “we played well. They only got a couple of fastbreak baskets on us today. They’re a strong team but I thought a lot of calls went against us today. That’s not an excuse – they are a better team – but not 21 points better.”

In the other semi, the Mount Royal Cougars defeated Camrose Lutheran 72-56; 60-43 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In game one, Mount Royal pounded Camrose Lutheran 72-56 as Patti Whan scored 18, Lisa Anderson 13 and Dawn Foster 13. In game two, Grande Prairie took the title with a narrow 55-54 win as Patti Johnson scored 32, Dawn Foster 15 and Wendy Klassen 10. Patti Johnson drove for the winning layup with seven seconds to play as the Wolves rallied from a 12-point second-half deficit. Johnson told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “I couldn’t believe it. Even after the buzzer went, I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it. … I wanted to take the shot. Joanne (Gorman) gave me the pass, I drove into the key, took a bank shot – which wasn’t my usual shot – and it went in.” The Cougars led 31-19 at the half. Johnson hit two free throws to take a 53-52 lead but Glenna Cardinal hit a turnaround jumper from 20 feet to give the Cougars a 54-53 lead, setting the stage for Johnson’s winner. The Wolves trailed by as many as 16 in the first half and had two starters, Lisette Boulet and Kelly Hunter, foul out. But rookies Laurie Moessner, Wendy Johansson and Joanne Gorman stepped in and played admirably. Wolves coach Patrick McDonald said “the girls showed a lot of character today.” Cougars coach Donovan Martin said “we did our best. Patti Johnson is a helluva player. She got the last shot and stuck it in. What else can you say? …. (In the second half), they played an incredible double-teaming defence that took us 10 minutes to adjust to. And by the time we did, they had caught up to us.”
