Heather Wright led the Cougars with 19, while nabbing 10 boards. Lori McNally led the Trojans with 14. In the other semi, the Red Deer Queens defeated the Grande Prairie Wolves 53-48; 65-53 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In game one, Red Deer prevailed 53-48 (also reported as 53-50) as Deana Wood scored 16 and Charlene Gulder 12. Lynne Kildaw led the Wolves with 23. Kelly Hunter added 12 (also reported as 14). Queens coach Pat Rawlusyk told the Red Deer Advocate that “we wanted to stay slow and they got us into a bit of a running game in the first half.” The score was knotted at 31 at the half. Dawn Schooler and Cindy Grief each hit two free throws in the final minute to ice it for Red Deer. Wolves coach Patrick McDonald told the Grande Prairie Herald Tribune that “one of the refs was a real homer. It got so bad Dale (president of the Grande Prairie Officials Association) King and his friends were booing the refs. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing.” …………………………………………………… In game two, Red Deer took the series with a 65-53 (also reported as 65-54) win as Wendy Anderson scored 20, Deana Wood, Cindy Grieb 10, Tammy Graf 6 and Ronda Salomons 5. Queens coach Pat Rawlusyk told the Red Deer Advocate that “you can’t say enough about the character of this team – and it is a team. No matter who came in, they did the job. … They all showed a lot of pride.” Kelly Hunter led the Wolves with 23 (also reported as 24). Patti Johnson added 8. Wolves coach Patrick McDonald told the Grand Prairie Herald Tribune that the Queens “played a great game. … When they had a good shot, they made it. They were shooting well from the outside.” The Wolves (coached by Patrick McDonald) also included Lynne Kildaw.

In the finals, the Red Deer Queens defeated the SAIT Trojans 64-51; 60-57 (2g-0).

In game one, Red Deer dusted SAIT 64-51 as Wendy Andersen scored 18, Deana Wood 13, Lori Johansen 8, Nancy Johnstone 8, Charlene Gulder 8 and Dawn Schooler 4. Cheryl Stargraat led the Trojans with 28. Janice Behrens added 11 and Lori McNally 7. The Queens led 29-25 at the half. Queens coach Pat Rawlusyk told the Calgary Herald that “if you get out on (Stargraat), she drives you. If you don’t, she shoots and drops them. But the key is, if she’s to get that many points in a game, then you try and shut down (Lori) McNally. If you do that, then Stargraat has to score an awful lot for them to win. We’ll try and shut down the inside game because those (perimeter shots) are lower percentage shots.”

In game two, Red Deer completed the series sweep with a 60-57 lead as Wendy Andersen socred 18, Charlene Gulder 10, Cindy Grieb 8, along with 11 boards, Dawn School 8 and Deana Wood 7. Queens coach Pat Rawlusyk told the Red Deer Advocate that “we made it hard on ourselves. We didn’tplay nearly as well as we should have and it almost cost us.” Wendy Anderson hit a bucket with 38 seconds to play. A Tracy Shimek shot rimmed out for SAIT. The Queens won a jump ball and rode out the clock. Rawlusyk said “we were just too scatterbrained on offence. We’d break their press but stand around and take poor shots. … Nothing was organized.” Red Deer led 30-25 at the half and shot 19-58 from the floor and 22-30 from the line. Tracy Shimek paced the Trojans with 17. Lori McNally added 12, Eve Pollitt 10 and Cheryl Stargraat 10. The Trojans hit 21-60 from the floor and 15-21 from the line.
