In the semis, the Lethbridge Kodiettes defeated the Camrose Lutheran Vikings 85-81 in overtime. The Kodiaks trailed by 41-30 at the half and by 18 in the second half but rallied back to force overtime on a Peggy Norgaard bucket with two seconds remaining on the clock. “It was very dramatic,” said Lethbridge coach Darrell Wall. “I think they played their best ball in that game. They had to do and they did it.” Kathy Gorman scored 37, including 30 in the second half. Malinda Hamilton added 21. Gorman figured in all but 4 of Lethbridge’s 55 points in the second half and overtime. “It was a tough game, having to come back like we did,” said Kodiette coach Darrell Wall. “We came back by playing it a basket at a lime and keeping our patience. … In college ball, a team should have the talent and ability to fight back.” Shelly Cranston led the Vikings with 26. Darcy Henkel added 18.

In the other semi, the Mount Royal Cougars stunned the regular season champion SAIT Helenas 69-40 as Darla Anderson scored 21 and Ingrid Bintner 13. Sherrie McNally led the Helenas with 9. The Helenas also included Rosie Steiert, Allison Crawford.

In the bronze medal match, the Camrose Lutheran Vikettes stunned the SAIT Helenas 64-54 as Shelley Cranston scored 20. Sherrie McNally led the Helenas with 26. The Trojans (coached by Stephen Altilio, assisted by Sandy Sexsmith) also included Jilaine Billon, Lori McNally, Rosie Steiert, Allison Crawford.

In the final, the Lethbridge Kodiettes defeated the Mount Royal Cougars 70-65. The Kodiettes took control when they switched to a zone defence in the second half. “We were trying to control some of the bigger girls on the MRC team and get more rebounds,” said Kodiettes coach Darrell Wall. Cathy Gorman paced the Kodiettes with 25. Joyce Pavka added 21 and Diane Irvine 11. Sharon Bliss led the Cougars with 20. Lethbridge led by as many as 13 points during the first half and held a 38-29 half-time lead. But Mount Royal trimmed the margin to two before centre Darla Anderson fouled out the tide turned with six minutes to play. “We’re very pleased with the win,” said Kodiette coach Darrell Wall. “That’s what we came here for and it’s nice to go out N. 1. Joyce Pavka was pretty tough on the boards, especially in the first half … and Cathy particularly deserved the award for MVP. And Malinda (Hamilton) played probably her best ball of the year in this tournament.”
