In the semis, Lethbridge defeated Grant MacEwan 82-85; 102-97; x-x (2g-1). The Griffins included Dennis Farn, Darren Ross, Joel Gobeil (Goebel?), Doug Peterson, Ralph Wunsch, Daryl Glimps, Colin Russell, Leery Gentles, Gavin Williamson, Darfield Thompson, Linley Steeves, Bryan Jefferies.
In the other semi, the host NAIT Trojans defeated the Medicine Hat Rattlers 75-73; 75-70 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In game one, NAIT prevailed 75-73. Dan Tudor led the Rattlers with 21. John Cislo added 21. …………………………………………………… In game two, NAIT completed the series sweep with a 75-70 win as Dexter Armour scored 21, Chris Mantley 21 and Brian Lazaruik 16. “We played very well. We just lost,” Rattlers coach Mike Havey told the Medicine Hat News. “NAIT’s number one in the country right now. We made some mistakes but we weren’t playing poorly.” Havey added that a couple of NAIT players “surprised us a little,” while star gunner John Cislo found himself in foul trouble. “That hurt us. Not much happens inside when John’s not on the floor.” But Havey was proud of their defensive effort. “That’s been our strength all year. Our weakness is being single dimensional on offence. … Some of the players are only proficient in one or two areas of the game and that makes it easy to defend against us.” The Rattlers also included Dan Tudor, Lyn Ellefson, Graham Hackl, Dean Harrison, Brady Andrews, Ian MacDonald, Brad McKenzie, Kent Krikke, James Vanderland, Noel Andreoni, James Gaetz.
In the final, NAIT defeated Lethbridge 72-77; 76-67; 78-68 (2g-1).
In game one, Lethbridge prevailed 77-72. “I think you could say we dominated the game. We started fairly slowly, then got a 10-, 12-point lead and we went to the bench,” said Kodiaks coach Tim Tollestrup. Bevan Hockridge paced the Kodiaks with 19. Lorne Mackenzie added 17. “We’re looking for good things from Bevan for the rest of the series. He was nine for 17 tonight and with his quickness he’s tough to stop if we get him the ball. They had a tough time trying to stop him and got some of their big guys in foul trouble which was key.”
In game two, NAIT evened the series with a 76-67 win.
In game three, NAIT took the series with a 78-68 win.
