In the semis, the Grant MacEwan Griffins defeated the Lethbridge Kodiaks 73-58; 58-66; 75-65 (2g-1). …………………………………………………… In game one, the Griffins dusted the Kodiaks 73-58. The Kodiaks “stunk,” said coach Dave Adams. “We needed to be a lot sharper. We were never in the right place at the right time, so we were never really in the game.” The Kodiaks rallied to within 10 with four minutes to play but their lack of intensity was still evident, Adams added. They practiced poorly all week and several lacked the’ “blood and guts” to take them into the playoffs. Most of the team had been “just cruising all week.” …………………………………………………… In game two, the Kodiaks prevailed 66-58. “The second half was the only time in the series we were consistent,” Kodiak Henry Bergen-Henengouwen told the Endeavour. “Twenty minutes out of 120 minutes isn’t good enough to win a series.” …………………………………………………… In game three, the Griffins took the series with a 75-65 win. Kodiak Craig Welch said the team might have been a trifle over-confident because they’d twice beaten the Griffins during the regular season.

In the other semi, the SAIT Trojans defeated the Mount Royal Cougars 83-67; 84-56 (2g-0). …………………………………………………… In game one, SAIT dusted Mount Royal 83-67 as Derrick Dell scored 20 and Chris Overwater 19. The Trojans led 41-25 at the half. …………………………………………………… In game two, SAIT took the series with an 84-56 win as Chris Overwater scored 24, Derrick Dell 16 and Ted Leslie 16. David McLeod led the Cougars with 11. Danny McMillan added 10. The Trojans led 38-34 at the half.

In game one, SAIT clipped Grant MacEwan 76-64 as Mike Cole scored 24 and Derrick Dell 16. Darren Caldwell led the Griffins with 20. The Trojans led 34-30 at the half.

In game two, SAIT took the conference title by dusting Grant MacEwan 91-67 as Derrick Dell scored 24, Ted Leslie 16, Michael Cole 14 and Trevor Hamilton 10. Gerry Couzens paced the Griffins with 16. Tony DeLuca added 15. Trojans coach Phil Allen told the Calgary Herald “look at our bench, we didn’t rattle. Wayne Gray comes in plays phenomenal. And Trevor Hamilton and Peter Olson. When Dell (got in foul trouble), we gained momentum instead of losing it. We talked all year about the importance of our bench and it showed up in the playoffs.” Griffins coach Doug Baker said “they just wore us down.”
