In the semis, the Lethbridge Kodiaks dumped the Camrose Lutheran Vikings 103-76 as Gary Williams scored 19, Al Pard 17, Greg Hess 17, Rob Hansen 12 and Glen Schuler 12. Greg Relling led the Vikings with 32. Gary Olsen added 12. The Kodiaks led 48-32 at the half. They hit 40% from the floor and 50% from the line, while the Vikings hit 33% from the floor and 57% from the line.

In the other semi, the Mount Royal Cougars clipped the Red Deer Kings 72-56 as Darrell Hauptman scored 14, Paul Hayes 14, Doug Baker 12 and Peter Ireland 8. Bill Bowd led the Kings with 18. Lionel Leiske added 13 and Gord Groves 12. Kings coach Wayne Lalor told the Red Deer Advocate that “if we could have shot anything, we would have been far enough ahead. They would never have caught us.” The Cougars led 30-26 at the half.

In the bronze medal match, the Camrose Lutheran Vikings dispatched the Red Deer Kings 65-53 as Gary Relling scored 22, Greg Olsen 21 and Ray Therou 12. Henry Grieb paced the Kings with 12. Gord Graves added 10, Bill Bowd 10 and Les Gray 9. Kings coach Wayne Lalor told the Red Deer Advocate that “it was very disappointing to give up third place in a game which we dominated in every aspect but one, the most important, shooting. Because of good rebounding we were able to get the inside jumper and layin, frequently two or three in a row, but we were unable to convert. We would have won the game at the foul line but we missed the first shot of potential bonus situations five times.” The Kings (coached by Wayne Lalor) included Bill Shandera, Lionel Leiske, Blaine Krieck, David, Guilbault, Jestin, Lunde, Dublanko.

In the final, the Lethbridge Kodiaks edged the Mount Royal Cougars 76-72, a far cry from the 132-61 spanking which the Kodiaks had administered to the Cougars late in the regular season. There were 20 lead changes until the final two minutes when the Kodiaks ripped off a 7-0 run to take a 76-68 lead. Tournament MVP Gary Williams paced the Kodiaks with 20 points and 19 boards. Brent Fairbanks added 15, Jerry Shockey 14 and Greg Hess 11, along with 14 boards. The Kodiaks hit 31% from the floor and 60% from the line, while outrebounding the Cougars 57-48. The Cougars hit 29% from the floor and 66% from the line. Paul Hayes and Doug Baker each scored 16 to pace the Cougars. Schools continued to grumble about Lethbridge bringing in American on scholarships, ostensibly as part of a bid to elevate the level of the game in Alberta.
