Thompson told Airdrie City View. “That’s quite an honour not only for myself, but for the boys as well. They’ve come to understand what this truly means as far as leaving a legacy, as well as setting up the next generation of this program for the future. … We always knew we were better than what they seeded us. At the same time, it’s really tough to rank teams that haven’t really played each other. … At the end of the day it came down to us having one more game and how we wanted to end the season. Do you want to end on a loss with no medal or do you want to end on a win? For me, I would rather win a bronze than lose a silver. You always want to end a season on that high.” Guard David Rodriguez told the Airdrie Echo that “no one really gave us much belief at the start” of the season but communication, defence and supportive fans “helped us out a lot.” Thompson told the Echo that the team’s motto was “celebrate but don’t be satisfied. That kind of summed up our entire attitude for the tournament. Everybody played a role—that’s been our secret sauce all year. We’ve said we’re the deepest team in the province.”
