The 3rd-seeded Edmonton Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds defeated the 11th-seeded Calgary Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs 91-75 as Andrew Champagnie scored 25 and Jamaal Bucknor 20. Ryan Wetherell paced Sir Winston Churchill with 22. Harshdeep Mangat and Cam Wutherich each added 13. The Bulldogs also included Bryce Pyle.

The 15th-seeded Calgary Father Lacombe Lasers upset the 7th-seeded Cardston Cougars 74-58 as Justin Hennebury scored 26 and Jerome Makasiar 14. Travis Quinton led Cardston with 18. Ryan Shideler added 14. The Cougars also included Mitch Quinton, Travis Wilson, Josh Watson, Brad Weston, Mark Olsen, Jared Leavitt, Desmond Rabbit, Kade Neilson, Taylor Redford, Robbie Low, Johnny Folson and Brandt Dewsbury. The Lasers led 34-28 at the half.

        In the semis, the top-seeded Calgary Lord Beaverbrook Lords defeated the 5th-seeded Edmonton Harry Ainlay Titans 58-49 as Beau Lawlor scored 18 and Taylor Glass 12. Jon Goodkey paced Harry Ainlay with 9. Teague Sherman added 7. The Lords outscored the Titans 9-1 over the final 3:30 of paly to pull out the win. Lawlor hit five free throws in the final 42 seconds. “Those were definitely the game breaker,” he told the Calgary Herald. “If they don’t go in, they still have a chance. I just focused on the fundamentals and thought about what I needed to do.” Beaverbrook coach Ray Raymond said his troops played with the requisite intensity, while Titans coach Rob Poole was elated his troops didn’t get pasted. “We lost by 40 to these guys in midseason. We lost by nine tonight. At this time of the year, the team that executes best wins. It was a very good game.” Both teams struggled early. Lawlor said the Lords focus was awry. “Our focus is always defence and we struggled getting that done at the start of the game. It takes us a while for us to realize our goals and the work we need to put in to accomplish those goals. We were a little uneasy at the start but it just takes a touch or two on the ball to get going.”

        In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Edmonton Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds defeated the 15th-seeded Calgary Father Lacombe Lasers 92-52 as Andrew Champagnie scored 25 and Terrence Blake 20. Jerome Makasiar paced Father Lacombe with 19. Orin McKuster added 17. Lasers coach Dan Lacroix told the Calgary Herald that he was elated that his troops made the semis. “We’re happy guys. The guys are hanging their heads a bit because we lost but Ross Sheppard’s a strong program. We’re happy to be mentioned in the same breath as them.”

        In the bronze medal match, the 5th-seeded Edmonton Harry Ainlay crushed the 15th-seeded Calgary Father Lacombe Lasers 95-62 as Judd Payne scored 18 and Jon Goodkey 15. Justin Hennebury led Father Lacombe with 23. Orin McKuster added 13. The Lasers also included Jasper Martin, Riiny Ngot, Jerome Makasiar.

        In the final, the top-seeded Calgary Lord Beaverbrook Lords dumped the 3rd-seeded Edmonton Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds 71-62 as Jeff Price scored 15 and Beau Lawlor 14 and Greg Jobagy 13. Jamaal Bucknor, Terence Blake and Chris Tron each scored 13 for Ross Sheppard. Played in Calgary before a sold-out Kenyon Court gym at Mount Royal College on the 50th-anniversary of the tournament. “We didn’t come here to participate,” Lords coach Ray Raymond told the Calgary Herald. “We came here to take care of business. There was never any doubt. No doubt.” The Lords used their fastbreak to generate a 17-point lead in the first half, although they soon found themselves in foul trouble, allowing Ross Sheppard to claw within 37-32 at the half. “We came out in a great way. We were fantastic to start,” said Raymond. “But when you get up, you tend to relax.” The teams exchanged the lead several times in the second half but Lord Beaverbrook took command in the final minutes over several turnovers forced through pressure defence. “I really think they wore us down with pressure,” said Ross Sheppard coach Dave Youngs. “Unfortunately, we dug ourselves a whole when we got down 17, but we did a good job coming back. But that took a lot out of us.” Price said the win was a reward for years of effort. “My team and I have been playing for four years and to win this is beyond any feeling I’ve ever had. Defence was our key thing. Against a team like this, we came out fighting and did what we had to do.” The Lords became the first Calgary team since Bishop Grandin in 1997 to win the title. Ross Sheppard was seeking its fifth title in seven years. “We’ve been very lucky,” said Youngs. “The kinds are the ones that make the program. They’ve been absolutely amazing.”
