In April/1971, the Prairie Athletic Conference was formally established. It had been operating informally in men’s basketball for three years. The founding members were Briercrest Bible, Luther, Canadian Bible and the Saskatchewan Technical Institute.
The U of Regina JVs Cubs precluded from playing in Four-West qualifying playoffs, i.e., the postseason playoffs. The Cubs (coached by Tom Hall and Max Landy, and managed by Rick Seasman) included Wayne McKeague, Wade Hauser, Jim McDonald, Gary Dodds, Tom Morrissey, Darrell Puscus, Bernie Schmidt, Pete McGeady, Rollie Petrowitsch, Larry Longmore, Lorne Baker, Waldo Patton and Brian Ward.
In the finals, the Kelsey Institute Amaruks defeated Moose Jaw Tech 85-51; 100-65;
In game one, Kelsey dusted Moose Jaw Tech (now Saskatchewan Technical Institute) 85-51 as Gene McWillie scored 28. The Amaruks led 41-14 at the half.
In game two, Kelsey Institute defeated Moose Jaw Tech 100-65 after leading 47-32 at the half. Brian Dimen and Gene McWillie each scored 14. Norm Davis led Moose Jaw with 19. Gary Barry added 16.
