In the quarterfinals, the 8th-seeded Fanshawe Falcons nipped the top-seeded Algonquin Thunder 69-66 to end the Thunder’s dream of a repeat OCAA title. The loss also puts to rest the Thunder’s hopes of a third straight appearance in Canadian Colleges Athletic Association national championships, despite their (22-0) record in OCAA East division play, as only the tournament finalists earn a berth to the nationals. “Foul trouble and turnovers plagued us the whole game,” said assistant coach Jimmy Langis. “We were up early in the first half but then they got hot from outside and hit a whole bunch of threes. We got a bit sloppy and they got ahead by 14 with about seven minutes to play. The guys fought back and cut it to one with a minute to play and then we missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime.” The Thunder had led 29-27 at the half. Kyle Wilkinson was chosen player of the game for the Falcons after scoring 16. Andrew Jones notched 18, James Falconer 9, Adrian Pytka 8, Tony McAleese 7, Bryan Colbridge 7 and Chad Lofthouse 4. Shane Dennie earned the laurels for the Hawks after scoring 18. Hawk Jake Keller said “the whole tournament was just disappointing.
