In the semis, the Humber Hawks defeated the Canadore Panthers 90-80 as Patrick Rhodd scored 23, Fitzroy Lightbody 23, Everton Webb 13, O’Neil Henry 7, Mark Croft 7, Steve McGregor 6, Gareth Broad 5, Dwayne Newman 4 and Roberto Feig 2. Brad Robinson paced the Panthers with 15. Eric Jones added 15, Chris Saygon 10, Patrick Johnson 9, Ian London 6, Fred Wood 6, Mark Yates 6 and Sherlon Chance 6.
In the other semi, the Seneca Braves upset the Algonquin Thunder 94-87 as George Frempong scored 25, Shawn Collins 19, Wayne Roomes 19, Cedric Agard 15, Lincoln Sawyer 6, Ahmed Araleh 4, Paul Thorpe 4 and Abey Bakare 2. Mark Headley paced the Thunder with 25. Greg Shirley added 16, Brad Peak 13, Jay Peak 11, Dennis Hinds 10, Pascal De Couvreur 8 and Steve Brown 4.
In the bronze medal match, the Canadore Panthers dumped the Algonquin Thunder 101-92 as Ian London, Mark Yates and Eric Johns each scored 22. Patrick Johnson added 16, Danny White 5 and Michel Tremblay 2. Brad Peak paced the Thunder with 29. Greg Shirley added 11, Dennis Hinds 10, Steve Brown 9, Cam Haszczyn 7, Dave Howell 3 Trevor Costello 2 and Jay Peak 2. The Thunder also included Pascal De Couvreur, Pat Sereduik, Stephen Dever, Mark Headley, Bryan Eburne, Kevin Ferguson and Chris Lynn.
In the final, the Humber Hawks thumped the Seneca Braves 86-74 to capture their third consecutive OCAA title. The Hawks were led by Patrick Rhodd, a graduate of West Humber Collegiate in Toronto, a two-time all-Canadian, three-time all-Ontario all-star. Rhodd led the league in scoring at 21 ppg. At the end of the season, Humber retired his jersey, number 43. Player of the game Fitzroy Lightbody paced the Hawks with 24. Steve McGregor added 20, Rhodd 13, Dwayne Newman 11, Mark Croft 10, Everton Webb 3, O’Neil Henry 3 and Roberto Feig 2. George Frempong led the Braves with 29. Cedric Agard added 12, Wayne Roomes 20, Iva Alexander 8, Paul Thorpe 8, Shawn Collins 6 and Abey Bakare 1. Hawks coach Mike Katz called it an “emotional” win, because “last year it seemed everyone wanted to knock us off but that this year a lot of people talk and didn’t think the team would make it,” he told The Coven. Humber took a 19-9 lead on a steal and pull-up trey by O’Neil Henry. They extended their margin to 46-30 at the half and were never seriously threatened. Steve McGregor said “I knew we had the talent no doubt about it. Nobody in Canada has the talent that we have. It just like getting things together, making everything fall in sink, find our roles and stuff.”
