In the quarterfinals, the Capilano Blues dusted the Langara Falcons 70-43.
In the other quarterfinal, the Douglas Royals dumped the Okanagan Lakers 83-73 as Jasmine Foreman scored 18, while nabbing 9 boards. Jocelyn Stendal added 16, Andrea Dufva 15 and Stacey Reykdal 10, along with 15 boards. Dallas English paced the Lakers with 16. Lisa Nevoral added 16 and Selina Abetkoff 11. The Lakers also included Kimberley Teichman.
In the semis, the Malaspina Mariners clipped the Capilano Blues 58-50 as Marilou Leonin scored and Jill Boyce 10. The Blues led 29-27 at the half.
In the other semi, the Fraser Valley Cascades whipped the Douglas Royals 77-62. Andrea Dufva led the Royals with 14 points and 12 boards.
In the bronze medal match, the Douglas Royals dispatched the Capilano Blues 65-54 as Andrea Dufva scored 22, while nabbed 11 boards. Stacy Rejkdal added 16, along with 15 boards, and Jasmine Foreman 13. The Blues (coached by Greg Zavediuk, assisted by Wendy Palmer) included Amanda Henderson, Lynn Westerman, Linnae Bee, Corianne Nielsen, Valerie Ho, Madeleine Lemaire, Carla King, Shelby Blesch, Linsey Stewart, Nina DiStefano, Catherine Olsen, Jian Wang and Shira Hassanali.
In the final, the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the Malaspina Mariners 60-47 as Amber Mytting scored 19, Martha Craig 17 and Krista Harris 6. Marilou Leonin led the Mariners with 12. Sherry Jardine added 9 and Jill Boyce 8. Mariners coach Tom Elwood told the Nanaimo Daily News that the objective was to contain Criag and Harris. “That was our game plan. It’s a risk you take and it didn’t work out. We made them play outstanding basketball if they were going to beat us and they did.”
