In the semis, the Cariboo College Gold Rush pounding the British Columbia Institute of Technology Cougars 49-33 as Linda Wiebe scored 14, Barb Olsen 11 and Alison Tourney 10. Heather Murdoch paced the Cougars with 12.
In the other semi, the Vancouver College Falconettes edged the Capilano blues 53-52 in overtime. The score was knotted at 42 after regulation and at 48 after the first overtime. Joanne Hollis paced the Falconettes with 14. Diane Warbow added 10. Theresa Smith led the Blues with 17. Lea-Ann Stevens added 16.
In the bronze medal match, the Capilano College Blues dispatched the British Columbia Institute of Technology Cougars 47-43 after leading 25-24 at the half. Sandra Jack paced the Blues with 14. Elizabeth Bell added 13. Stashia Gallagher led the Cougars with 18. The Cougars were coached by ex-Canadian Football League star Tyronne Walls) also included Heather Murdoch.
In the final, the Vancouver College (Langara) Falconettes clipped the Cariboo College Gold Rush 48-32. Gold Rush coach Chris Price told the Kelowna News “It was a matter of not having a good zone offence. The girls didn’t shoot the ball well. The ball didn’t fall in for us. I’m as much to blame as they are, I changed things in the second half.” Falconettes coach Ian Kelsey said “we controlled both the offensive and defensive boards and that’s unusual for us. We usually control the defensive boards. … I knew we couldn’t run with Cariboo, there was no way. They would have beaten us man-to-man. Our intent was that, if they were going to get anything, it was going to be through a battle. … Our girls were absolutely brilliant on defence tonight. We fed our big girls inside on offence — we knew we had to.” The Falconettes led 35-15 at the half. Kelsey said “they allowed themselves to get pushed too far out. We weren’t going to let them get anything inside.” Price said “you’ve got to give VCC all the credit, they did a helluva job. Our ability not to put the ball in the basket, that was a big problem. We” had a good year and I’m proud of the girls. The girls gave 100 percent right to the final buzzer.” Debbie Korevaar led the Falconettes with 19. Joanne Hollis added 15. Wilma Schuring led the Gold Rush with 11. Linda Weibe added 9.
