Winnipeg’s Sandra Carroll was named the Nan Copp recipient. The guard led the top-ranked Wesmen in scoring and was named MVP of three in-season tournaments.
Winnipeg’s Tom Kendall was the Ennis winner. In his 14th season at the Wesmen helm, Kendall had captured eight GPAC titles.
McGill’s Vicky Tessier was named the Shields winner. The 5-11 post was the first Quebec winner of the national rookie of the year award. The Chateauguay native was selected to the QUBL all-star team, while being named the league’s MVP and rookie of the year. She averaged 15.3 ppg to finish second in conference scoring, while nabbing 7.5 rpg to again finish as runner-up in league standings. The science major helped McGill capture the regular season title with an 11-1 record. The Martlets finished 25-4 overall. Tessier won 10 awards on the season, including tourney MVP at the Dalhousie Subway Classic.
Joining Carroll as 1st team All-Canadians were: Denise Scott (Toronto); Tara Gallaway (Victoria); Theresa MacCuish (St. FX); and Andrea Hlady (Lethbridge). …………………………………………………… MacCuish, a native of Balls Creek, was MVP of the AUAA as she led the X-Women to the conference tourney final. She led the country in scoring with a 26.4 ppg. ……………………………………………………
Joining Tessier as 2nd-team All-Canadians were: Dianne Norman (Laurentian); Sandra Hamilton (Brandon); Deanne Shmyr (Regina); and Michele Mommersteeg (Western).
Joining Tessier on the all-rookie unit were: Victoria Neufeld (Manitoba); Lori Messer (St. Mary’s); Leigh Anne Isaac (York); and Laurie Townshend (Guelph). …………………………………………………… Messer, a 6-0 post, averaged 15.3 ppg and 5.9 rpg for the Huskies.
