Victoria’s Lori Clarke is named recipient of the Nan Copp award. The 6-0 post from Abbotsford, a member of Canada’s national team, redshirted a year at Victoria after two years at Eastern Washington. A deadly outside shooter, Clarke helped the Vikings defeat touring Taiwanese national team by scoring 42 points in December/1986. “She is one of those rare players who combines outstanding talent with a great enjoyment for working hard. She comes to practice every day looking to be pushed,” says Victoria coach Kathy Shields. “She has a beautiful personality and is very popular with her teammates. I know this makes her sound like she’s perfect but Lori is that kind of person. Whenever you need a lift to your day, you go and see Lori. She’s always got a smile and something that makes you come away feeling better. She makes my life and whole lot easier.”
Laurentian Peter Ennis wins the national coach of the year award. The trophy is later renamed in his honor.
Joining Clarke as 1st team All-Canadians were: Beth Cochran (Winnipeg); Janet Fowler (Victoria); Carol Hamilton (Laurentian); and Mary Ann Kowal (Toronto).
The 2nd team selections were: Kim Bertholet (Manitoba); Jennifer George (Manitoba); Kathleen McCormack (Dalhousie); Debbie Patterson (Calgary); and Kelly Tucker (Bishop’s)
