Calgary’s Janis Paskevich was named player of the year. The 6-1 forward led Canada West in scoring with 20.2 ppg, and was second in rebounding with 186 boards. “I’ve watched Janis for the past four years – two years when I was at Lethbridge – and I’ve seen a complete improvement in her abilities as a player,” said Calgary coach Donna Roman. “She is a very coachable and highly motivated player. She wants everything and works hard during the summer on her game. She’s an outstanding team player and a leader with a great attitude on the floor.”

        Joining Paskevich on the All-Canadian first team were: Susan Hyland (Bishop’s); Trix Kannekens (Alberta); Donna Posnick (Winnipeg); and Carol Rosenthal (Dalhousie).

        The second team featured: Joann Bourque (Concordia); Dianne Chiasson (St. Mary’s); Anna Pendergast (Dalhousie); Janet Lumsden (Brandon); and Barbara Whibbs (York). …………………………………………………… Lumsden was a freshman from Brandon. The An 18-year from Halifax, who was a first-team GPAC all-star, averaged 22.8 ppg on conference play and 21.3 ppg in 43 games. “Janet is a terrific shooter, but she can do other things, too. The thing about her is that she’s going to get better. She is a very coachable player. She’ll improve next season,” said Bobcats coach Bill Moody.
