St. Mary’s 6-9 post Will Njoku was selected the Moser recipient. The third-year Huskie led the AUAA in scoring with 25.3 ppg (third in the country) and was second in rebounding with 9.7 per game. He also blocked four shots a game. “At the start of the season, I had written down some personal goals that I thought I could achieve,” said the 6-9 Halifax West High grad and third-year psychology student. “One was to become an AUAA all-star. The second was to be the conference MVP. And the third was to be an All-Canadian. My wildest dreams were to be player of the year. But I was shocked to hear I was chosen among all the great athletes in the country.” Njoku becomes the second AUAA recipient of the Moser.
The Aberdeen went Bill Wedlake of Winnipeg, who led the Wesmen to a (10-2) record and first place in the GPAC.
Dalhousie forward Shawn Plancke captured the Mullins award. The 6-7 post from Elgin, Ontario averaged 13. ppg and 9.3 rpg. “It feels great, I was really honoured,” said Plancke.
Joining Njoku as 1st team All-Canadians were: Jack Vanderpol (McMaster); Tim Mau (Guelph); Dexter John (Concordia); and Jeff Foreman (Winnipeg). …………………………………………………… John was the MVP of the QUBL, scoring 19.3 ppg while leading the Stingers to a 12-0 regular season title. He led Concordia in scoring in 15 of 29 games on the season.
The second team featured: Dean Thibodeau (Dalhousie); Brian Bleich (Brock); Dean Wiebe (Saskatchewan); Eric Bridgeland (Manitoba); Norm Hann (Laurentian) and Derek Christiansen (U.B.C.). Hann and Christiansen finished tied in coaches voting for the final berth.
