Manitoba’s Martin Riley was awarded the Moser. The 5-11 guard led the Bisons to the GPAC final, where they were upset by Lakehead.
McGill’s Butch Staples was named recipient of the Aberdeen, after steering the Redmen to a 15-1 record in the Quebec conference and a 25-3 record heading into the nationals. A 31-year-old native of Knowlton, Quebec, Staples was a graduate of Bishop’s, McMaster and Springfield College. “It’s a great honor and I’m really impressed,” said Staples. “But the credit must go to this team, which didn’t really necessitate an abundance of coaching.”
Joining Riley on the All-Canadian first team were Charlie Galbraith (McGill); Joey Farroba (McGill); Doug Baker (Alberta); and Alvin Jessamy (Acadia). …………………………………………………… Galbraith, a 6-9 centre from King’s College, Pennsylvania, He averaged 23.5 ppg and 14.5 rpg for the Redmen, while hitting .560 from the floor and .720 from the line. He was a first-team RSEQ all-star. …………………………………………………… Farroba, a 6-1 guard, was formerly MVP of Boston State. He averaged 20 ppg and 6 rpg, while hitting .520 from the floor and .710 from the line for the Redmen. He was a first-team RSEQ all-star. …………………………………………………… Baker, a 6-5 forward, led Canada West in scoring and was second in the nation in scoring with a 24.1 ppg. “It makes all the training worth it,” Baker said. He was a first-team Canada West all-star. …………………………………………………… Jessamy, a 6-5 forward from New York, averaged 12.3 ppg and 8.7 rpg, while hitting .411 from the floor and .632 from the line. He was a first-team AUAA all-star.
