Marjorie Kelly added 17 points and 6 rebounds. Lara Asplin led Winnipeg with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Natalie McVicar scored 16 and 8 rebounds. …………………………………………………… In game two, Manitoba defeated Winnipeg 96-69 as Marjorie Kelly scored 25, 3 rebounds and 5 steals, Anne Smith 24 points, including 20-20 from the line, and 12 rebounds and Ola Samborski 17 points and 12 rebounds. Natalie McVicar led Winnipeg with 24 points and 5 rebounds. The Wesmen (coached by Tanya McKay) also included Erin Soroko, Lara Asplin, Brooke Bendern, Shawna Cook, Stephanie Dyck, Amy Frederickson, Dana Harvey, Jill Mathez, Marnie Nechwediuk, Erin Soroko, Hong Thai, Heather Wedlake and Tami Woodward.
In the finals, Manitoba defeated Regina 81-72; 64-57; 72-64 (2g-1).
In game one, Regina defeated Manitoba 81-72. Regina got hot early from perimeter and took a double-digit lead as Andrea Gottselig, Jasmine Weseen and Bree Burgess hit threes. and Corrin Wersta dominated paint. Regina led 48-31 at break. Anne Smith rallied Manitoba back and Kyla Koskie put back offensive rebounds and cut lead to three with minutes to play. But Cougars held on. Wersta led Regina with 23 points. Smith led Bisons with 25.
In game two, Manitoba defeated Regina 64-57. Amy Mickleborough scored 20 for Regina.
In game three, Manitoba defeated Regina 72-64 as Anne Smith tossed in 27.
In October/98 former Winnipeg coach Tom Kendall, now at California (Pa.), was cleared of serious violations of NCAA rules. But the program was found guilty of seven secondary violations, including allowing at assistant coach to supervise weightlifting sessions of prospective student athletes, allowing a prospective athlete to work out with the team, and allowing players to go with Kendall on a scouting trip. The more serious allegations included mistreating kids in practice and sending his team out to hurt the other team. Kendall agreed to attend an NCAA compliance seminar.
