In the finals, Winnipeg defeated Regina 78-50; 78-43 (2g-0).

In game one, Winnipeg prevailed 78-50 as Dori McPhail scored 23 and Gail Winston 22. Wesmen coach Vic Pruden told the Regina Leader-Post that “Regina plays well in the conference but we just have too much talent for them.” Cougars coach Sue Higgs said “I thought they were loose before the game. They were talking and joking earlier in the day and seemed quite confident. I didn’t think they were psyched by Winnipeg. I don’t really know what the problem was but I thought it was the worst game they’ve played this year. We just couldn’t stop them. Every time we turned around someone else had a free shot. We played five different guards versus McPhail and Winston.” Jan Tangjerd noted that “we are a fastbreak team and Friday we didn’t run the fastbreak once. Our defence didn’t work very well and our offence was the one shot they let us have from the top of the key. But we don’t shoot well from there.” Regina outrebounded Winnipeg 35-31 but shot 29% from the floor, while Winnipeg shot 53%.

In game two, Winnipeg completed the sweep with a 78-43 win to capture their fifth consecutive crown in the seven year history of the women’s program. Gail Winston led the Wesmen with 22. Dori McPhail added 19 on 9-16 from the floor, Cathy Dubesky added 12, Lucy Burdz 12, Cathy McPherson 10 and Debbie Steele 6, along with 7 boards. Jan Tangierd led the Cougettes with 12. The Wesmen outrebounded the Cougettes 38-24. Donna Steele nabbed 7 boards for the Wesmen. Burdz nabbed 6 and Dubesky 5. Betty Hoffert led Cougette rebounders with 8. The Wesmen hit 47% from the floor and 10-20 from the line. The Cougettes hit 33% from the floor and 5-9 from the line. Regina had 31 turnovers. Cougars coach Sue Higgs told the Regina Leader-Post that “I think their inexperience showed when we got down 12-2 early in the game. They kept looking at the scoreboards and I think the anxiety of not scoring really hurt them.”
