In the finals, Winnipeg defeated Manitoba 60-53; 51-70; 71-53 (2g-1).
In game one, Winnipeg defeated Manitoba 60-53 as Kathy Dubesky tossed in 15, Ingrid Stitt 12 and Bev Sauer 8. Winnipeg led 30-22 at the half and by as many as 18 in the second half. Still, head coach Vic Pruden called it a “spotty” performance. “We led all the way but they were on our tail. We just couldn’t shake them. The girls were too tight, which hampered our game plan,” said Pruden. “They passed too often. Too careful. When you do that you make mistakes.” Diane Ralph led Manitoba with 12 points. Loo Beckman added 11 and Gail Winston 10.
Manitoba walloped Winnipeg 70-51 in game two as Gail Winston tossed in 22, including 10-14 from the floor. Jane Randles added 14 and Jane Edstrom 12. Winnipeg appeared tense and tight and the Bisons played good defence. They outshot Winnipeg .480 to .220 from the floor. Nancy Sharratt led Winnipeg with 13 points. Kathy Dubesky added 9.
In the deciding contest, Winnipeg thrashed Manitoba 71-53 as Dori McPhail scored 19, Kathy Dubesky 15, Eleanor Thompson 11 and Ingrid Stitt 8. Jane Randles led Manitoba with 18. Jane Edstrom added 16 and Gail Winston 11. Winnipeg led 34-31 at the half. “The girls played super today,” coach Vic Pruden noted. “We were really good on defence and loose on offence. We shot a lot better today than on Saturday. Saturday the girls were too tense and they didn’t play the way they can. They were waiting too long to shoot and making mistakes. Today they weren’t hesitant. “Manitoba has a good
team and they played well. I think the big difference was our defensive play. As the game went on, our girls made it tough for them to get good shots. We were also strong on the boards. The Thompson sisters (Anne and Eleanor) did a great job. They each grabbed nine rebounds.”
