        In the quarterfinals, the 5th-seeded Memorial Sea-Hawks dispatched the 4th-seeded New Brunswick Varsity Reds 79-70 after leading 12-11, 32-28 and 56-47 at the quarters. The Sea-Hawks opened the second half with an 8-2 run to extend their lead to double-digits. The Varsity Reds trimmed the margin to two in the final quarter but the Sea-Hawks took command down the stretch. Sydney Stewart paced Memorial with 32 on 13-28 from the floor, 1-2 from the arc, 5-8 from the line, 8 boards and 2 assists.         In the other quarterfinal, the 3rd-seeded Acadia Axewomen dusted the 6th-seeded Dalhousie Tigers 74-54 after leading 16-11, 35-21 and 51-35 at the quarters. Acadia led by as many as 27. Axewomen post Jayda Veinot, who was named player of the game, said “we are used to 4 or 6 o’clock games and we were nervous, but Len (coach Harvey) told us even without that, we will be able to shoot like we can shoot and we’ve been shooting for a long time, so come in confidently and they will fall.” Jayda Veinot paced Acadia with 19 on 7-15 from the floor, 4-7 from the arc, 1-2 from the line, 6 boards and 2 steals. Haley McDonald added 13 on 6-18 from the floor, 1-5 from the arc, 2 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. Shalyn Field notched 11 on 4-6 from the floor, 1-1 from the arc, 2-2 from the line and 5 boards.         In the semis, the 5th-seeded Memorial Sea-Hawks stunned the top-seeded Cape Breton Capers 90-82. The Capers led 23-12 after one quarter on a late trey from Audrey Rankin. But the Sea-Hawks ripped off an 11-0 run to take a 40-35 lead at the half. Mackenzee Ryan drained a trey and Madison Munro a jumper to draw Cape Breton within 59-57 but the Sea-Hawks rebuilt their lead to 68-61 after three quarters. The Sea-Hawks maintained a comfortable margin to the final buzzer. Sydney Ezekiel paced Memorial with 26 on 9-18 from the floor, 3-5 from the arc, 5-5 from the line, 7 boards and 2 blocks. Sydney Stewart added 22 on 7-21 from the floor, 3-4 from the arc, 5-6 from the line, 8 boards, 5 assists and 3 steals. Brooklyn Wright notched 15 on 6-10 from the floor, 2-4 from the arc, 1-1 from the line and 6 boards. Haille Nickerson scored 12 on 4-8 from the floor, 4-4 from the line and 3 boards.         In the other semi, the 3rd-seeded Acadia Axewomen edged the 2nd-seeded Prince Edward Island Panthers 88-84 as player of the game Haley McDonald broke a 42-year-old AUS record by scoring 51. The Axewomen led 27-22, 43-34 and 68-58 at the quarters. The Panthers pulled within six in the final quarter on an and-one by Jenna Mae Ellsworth but the Axewomen held on for the win. McDonald said “my team says it all. They are the best. I had a blast. Today was amazing. The crowd was amazing. There is nothing like this feeling. We can’t wait to play tomorrow. We are so excited. … I knew we had to keep doing what we were doing. We had a dominating first half. We just wanted to keep doing what was working.” Haley McDonald paced the Axewomen with 51 on 18-33 from the floor, 5-11 from the arc, 10-11 from the line, 4 boards and 2 assists.         In the final, the Acadia Axewomen captured their second consecutive provincial title by clipping the Memorial Sea-Hawks 84-74. The Sea-Hawks took an early 12-6 lead but the Axewomen rallied to knot the score at 19 after one quarter. The Axewomen led 45-28 at the half after ripping off a 23-3 run. They led 72-45 after three quarters and Memorial never again threatened, drawing no closer than 10. Acadia led by as many as 25. Acadia’s Jayda Veinot was chosen player of the game. Haley McDonald paced Acadia with 29 on 9-20 from the floor, 3-7 from the arc, 8-10 from the line, 7 boards, 10 assists and 2 steals.
