In the semis, 3rd-seeded U.P.E.I. edged 2nd-seeded St. Mary’s 72-70 after leading by 14 at the half. The Huskies (coach Allan Waye, assistant Alice Cerny, assistant Hugh MacDonald, manager John Landry) included Tom McCutcheon, Dean Durnford, David Smith, David McIntosh, Gary Bratty, Tony Walker, John Murphy, Jim Butcher, Safaa Qasawa, Jerome Washburn, James Lakes, Brian Thompson, Dale Stevens, Jay Kelleher, Sean Sullivan, Tom McCutcheon, Trevor States, Bill Marshall, Jay Hammer, Chris Rowarth and Craig Burnett.
In the final, second place and 3rd-seeded U.P.E.I. upset regular season champ Acadia 74-72. Panthers coach George Morrison said tournament MVP Peter Gordon was “fantastic. He just made stuff one-on-one when Acadia had shut everything else down. It’s hard to think he could do much more than he did today.”
After the season, New Brunswick coach Don Nelson technically took a one-year sabbatical. But he did not return, so it effectively proved a retirement.
