Saint Mary’s took the title with a 51-50 victory over Dalhousie in the postseason playoff. In regular season play: Saint Mary’s defeated St. FX twice, Dalhousie two of three times and split with Acadia. Daniels scored 475 points on the season, Brown 342 and O’Reilly 343.

In the postseason playoff game, the Saint Mary’s Huskies nipped the Dalhousie Tigers 51-50. The start of the game was delayed 41 minutes because of a circuit failure in the lighting system, a development which the Tigers claimed determined the outcome. The Huskies led 20-6 early and 23-16 at the half as both squads shot the ball poorly. The Tigers opened the second half with a 12-0 run and Eric Durnford rallied the Tigers to a six-point lead in the second half bu the Huskies fought back to knot the score at 48 with 1:51 to play. Al Brown gave the Huskies the lead with a free throw and then Tiger Brian Peters was called out-of-bounds on a rebound, giving Saint Mary’s the ball. Joe O’Reilly hit a 20-footer with 28 seconds to play. It proved to be the winner. Durnford responded with a runner. Reardon missed an open 10-footer, giving Dalhousie the ball off a rebound with 42 seconds to play. Bruce Bourassa missed a pair of jumpers and Huskie Bill Thomas nabbed the rebound with 2 seconds to play to ice the win. Al Brown paced the Huskies with 15 points and 15 boards. Jim Daniels added 12. Eric Durnford led the Tigers with 11. Brian Peters added 11 and Bruce Bourassa 10, along with 17 boards. Saint Mary’s hit 20-59 (.340) from the floor, while the Tigers hit 19-39 (.490). Early in the season, Tigers Kevin White and captain Thomas Beattie, along with two female passengers, died when their convertible crashed through a guard rail on the highway and ran into a gully on the outskirts of Halifax. All four students were thrown an estimated 100 feet into a grove of trees.
