In New Brunswick play, host Mount Allison defeated the Varsity Reds 31-28 and then protested UNB’s use of Dave Stothart, who Mount Allison claimed had played for five seasons and is no longer eligible. But Howie Ryan ruled that intercollegiate play was suspended during the war, so those years couldn’t be counted as college years. The Maritime Intercollegiate body was asked to rule on Stothart’s status. They ruled that the protest is valid and that Stothart couldn’t play at UNB. …………………………………………………… UNB won the second game, without Stothart, 45-36 as Demers scored 16, Jardine 12, Garland 7, Hanson 5, Campbell 4 and Garner 1. Lawrence Ketchum led Mount Allison with 21. Robert Robinson added 5, Gordon Eastman 5, Edward Cameron 3 and Tucker 2.

The lead changing hands eight times, and with but minutes to go, St. FX led 28-27. An attempt to freeze the ball was un­successful and Acadia scored on a desperate long chance for a 29-28 lead with 42 seconds to play. With 7 seconds remaining Captain Lorne Whalen scored on a free throw to tie the mark. Overtime saw Acadia capitalize on a free throw and again with little time left Whalen repeated his foul shot. The regular season left St. FX and Acadia tied atop the standings with a 4-2 record. According to M.I.A.U. ruling the two teams in­volved in the tie added their total points scored against each other, and St. F. X. gained the N. S. intercollegiate title by a total-point count of 74-65.

In the Maritime playoffs, the University of New Brunswick Red Raiders defeated the St. Francis Xavier X-Men 54-45; 63-41 (Total: 117-86).

In game one, the host Red Raiders prevailed 54-45 as Art Demers scores 18, Garland 13 and Jardine 10. Lorne Whalen and Hank Propper each scored 13 for St. FX. Bill Ritchie adds 12. UNB’s press rattles St. FX as coach Howie Ryan tells rebounders to bat the ball to an outlet man to trigger fast break.

In game two, New Brunswick dominated the X-Men 63-41 in Antigonish as Jardine scores 18 and Demers 16. Hank Propper led St. FX with 21. Lorne Whalen was held to 6.
