A ban on intercollegiate sports was imposed near the end of 1940. It was agreed to by university presidents across the country.
The New Brunswick Varsity Reds captured the New Brunswick title. The Varsity Reds (coached by George Andrews, managed by James Morrow) included Darrell Munro, Robert Smith, Marshall, Doug Rogers, George McClintock, Butch McLean, Charlie Wegman, Gordon Fisher, Frank Milbury, Gerlad Lockhard.

Dalhousie played in a Halifax city men’s league. The Tigers (coached by Burnie Ralston and managed by Al Nickerson) included Jack MacKenzie, Dave Doig, Al MacLeod, Smith, Ben Wilson, Johnny Martin, MacKimmee, Seaman, MacRitchie, Charlie Dunbrack.

There was no intercollegiate competition with Nova Scotia schools due to the war, though New Brunswick defeated Acadia in an exhibition match.
