In the semis, Laval defeated Concordia 54-50.
In the final, McGill defeated Laval 66-58. “It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to say we’re going to the national championship,” Martlets coach Chris Hunter told the Montreal Gazette. “It’s been too long.” McGill led 32-24 at the half. Josee Deloretto led the Martlets with 19, including 14 in the second half and 3-5 from the arc. Lesley Stevenson notched 6 boards and 2 assists, while guard Debby Morse, who took three stitches in the mouth after a collision with Laval’s Chantale Cantin, noted that “we knew what to expect from them. They’re a good shooting team from the outside and we knew we had to take it away from them.” Morse returned with eight minutes left to play, and promptly sank a field goal and two foul shots for a 56-43 McGill lead.
