In the semis, Laval defeated McGill 78-65. McGill led 35-29 at the half.
In the final, Laval defeated Bishop’s 68-59. Lise Vaillancourt notched a combined 40 points in the semis and the final.
After the season, McGill coach Hubert Lacroix retired. He was replaced by John Abbott coach Chris Hunter, who had a career record of 290-83 while steering the Lady Islanders to five national titles and 10 provincial crowns, including seven in a row. He was the named the CCAA coach of the year in 1984. “I’m in a pretty good position here at John Abbott,” Hunter told the Montreal Gazette. “I’m very happy with the job and I like the people and students I work with. To give all that up, you’d have to only move to something better. … It’s part-time in name and salary only. We want to compete at the national level and be one of the top-ranked teams in the country.” Hunter’s life-time record was 287-83 and he was named the Federation des associations sportives collegiales du Quebec (FASQ) coach of the decade in 1984.
