In the semis, Laval crushed UQAM 78-63 as Jean-Philippe Morin scored 22 on 6-12 from the floor, 2-2 from the arc, 8-8 from the line and 8 boards. Marc-Antoine Horth added 19 on 8-14 from the floor and 9 boards. Charles Fortier scored 18 on 5-10 from the floor, 6-14 from the line and 7 boards. Mathieu Bilodeau scored 7 on 2-7 from the floor. Dominique Soucy scored 6, Philippe Cote-Jacques 4 and Jean-Michel Leblanc 3, while Pierre-Olivier Horth was scoreless. The Rouge et Or shot 26-57 (.456) from the floor, 7-16 (.438) from the arc and 19-27 (.704) from the line, while garnering 36 boards, 11 assists, 17 fouls, 11 turnovers 3 steals and 6 blocks. Ratana Sak led UQAM with 15 points on 5-9 from the floor and 2-5 from the arc. Gerces Prosper scored 14 on 5-8 from the floor and 6 boards. Kevin Boucher notched 12 on 5-10 from the floor. Francois J-Yelle scored 7 on 3-14 from the floor and 1-6 from the arc. Marc-Olivier Beauchamp scored 6 on 2-8 from the floor. Bruno Visotzky-Bernier scored 4, Samuel Johnson 3 and Joseph Atangana 2, while Rudle Dorsainville was scoreless. UQAM shot 22-68 (.324) from the floor, 6-18 (.333) from the arc and 13-18 (.722) from the line, while garnering 25 boards, 1 assist, 19 fouls, 6 turnovers, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

        In the other semi, Concordia thrashed Bishop’s 89-68. Forward Patrick Perrotte said the Stingers were determined to avenge a loss in the 2004 semis. “We weren’t about the make the same mistake twice. All week, our focus was only on Bishop’s and it stayed that way going into this game. There was no way we were going to let anything distract us from what we had to do. What happened last year was still on our minds.” The Stingers started slowly but took command five minutes into the affair and romped. Trailing 11-4, they responded with a 20-5 run as Ben Sormonte drained three from beyond the arc. Concordia led 39-29 at the half. Perrotte said 6-7 centre Jamal Gallier was effective. “Jamal’s improved a lot. He’s gotten stronger and uses his size better than he did at the start of the season. And he’s running the floor better. He did a great job out there today against their big man (Jeff Szita).” Patrick Perrotte paced Concordia with 24 points on 9-15 from the floor, 5-6 from the line, 5 boards and 4 assists. Benjamin Sormonte added 18 on 5-13 from the floor, 3-8 from the arc, 4-4 from the line and 7 boards. Philippe Langlois notched 13 on 3-4 from the floor, 6-6 from the line and 4 steals.         In the final, host Concordia nipped Laval 75-72 as Dwayne Buckley scored 17 on 7-13 from the floor, 3-5 from the line and 6 boards. He hit 13 of his points in the second half by attacking the baseline against the taller Rouge et Or. Chris Blackwood scored 13 on 5-7 from the floor. Benjamin Sormonte notched 13 on 3-12 from the floor, 2-8 from the arc, 5-6 from the line, 6 boards and 6 assists. Patrick Perrotte scored 11 on 5-9 from the floor. Rastko Popovic notched 9 on 3-10 from the floor. Philippe Langlois scored 6 on 2-7 from the floor and 7 boards. Jamal Gallier scored 4 and Andre Johnny 2. The Stingers hit 28-62 (.452) from the floor, 7-20 (.350) from the arc and 12-18 (.667) from the line, while garnering 31 boards, 18 fouls, 19 assists, 9 turnovers, 1 block and 8 steals, including 4 by Langlois. Dominique Soucy paced Laval with 28 points on 10-15 from the floor, 8-10 from the arc and 3 assists. Jean-Philippe Morin added 16 on 6-9 from the floor, 4-8 from the line and 10 boards. Marc-Antoine Horth scored 10 on 4-7 from the floor. Charles Fortier notched 7 on 3-10 from the floor and 8 boards. Jean-Michel Leblanc scored 4, Mathieu Bilodeau 3, Etienne Wilsey 3 and Philippe Cote-Jacques 2, while Pierre-Olivier Horth was scoreless. The Rouge et Or hit 26-52 (.500) from the floor, 11-25 (.440) from the arc and 9-18 (.500) from the line, while garnering 27 boards, 18 fouls, 14 assists, 14 turnovers, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Concordia led 41-34 at the half. The game was within reach of each team throughout although Laval crept out to a small lead in the first half and Concordia was up by more than 10 at one point in the second half. Neither team was letting anyone slip out of the gym unnoticed as both continually used hardnosed defence and offensive execution to bring themselves back into contention. Dominique Soucy shot 8-10 from beyond the arc to keep Laval in the contest, while Jean-Philippe Morin attacked well inside. Marc-Antoine Horth was in quick foul trouble. Concordia had a balanced scoring attack. “This is what it’s all about. This is what we worked so hard for all season,” said Philippe Langlois. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me to finally be going to the national championship. This is an incredible moment right now.” Langlois hit a pair of free throws with the Stingers clinging to a two-point lead after Laval had rallied from a 10-point deficit. The free throws gave the Stingers a 73-69 lead and effectively decided the game. Dominique Soucy hit a trey before Buckley added a pair of free throws to close out the scoring. “We’ve worked all year to get to this point and win it for Phil,” said Buckley. “He means so much to this team and to have him in the position he was at the end of the game didn’t surprise anybody. …We kept our composure throughout the game. We knew they’d come back on us; they’re a good team. But we made the tough shots when they really counted.” Laval coach Jacques Paiement lamented a 9-18 effort from the line. “But there’s no place for ifs or buts. So many things happen in a basketball game, especially an important one like this. But what you saw tonight was a very good team make a lot of very good plays. Hats off to Concordia.”
