Although York was 8-4, they were penalized eight points in the final standings because they used an ineligible player, Jean Graham, who was a full-time student. Players must carry a 60% workload or at least three full-year courses. Graham had started the year with 3.5 courses but dropped a full-year course in mid-January. York consequently finished tied with Ottawa for the final playoff spot, which the Gee-Gees were awarded because Graham had played both games against Ottawa.

Queen’s also lost a game in the standings. In May, the Gaels had requested that a game with York be switched from a Saturday to a Sunday. They filed the paperwork and assumed the OUA had agreed. But the Yeowomen arrived on Saturday night in Kingston and Queen’s wasn’t there. York was awarded a forfeiture.

But the Rams ripped off a 14-0 run in the second half to rally within 7. Colleen Ryan stifled the threat, though, by scoring 5 unanswered. The Rams (coached by Mike Hickey) included Caroline Borsutzky, Lynn Borgogelli, Lisa Barr, Barbara Borsutzky, Jennifer Brooks, Donna Chapple, Michelle McGregor, Jane McFarlane, Barbara Scott and Chris Monfort.

The Blues took an early 11 point lead but Brock rallied to within 29-26 at the half and then took an 11-point lead of their own in the second half. Brock hit 23-53 from the floor, while Toronto was 22-51. Badgers coach Chris Critelli told the St. Catharines Standard that “our defence was great. Yvonne Doodeman and Kathleen Findlay, they kept Mary Ann Kowal in check most of the time. … We got a good effort from everybody, Lisa Voisey controlled the game for us, while Janice Hogveen had a real clutch game. She had 6 points and 4 rebounds, which doesn’t sound like much but every point and every rebound was in a clutch situation. We needed them.” Blues coach Michele Belanger told the Varsity that “there was a lot of pressure on us. Especially on Mary Ann (Kowal), Theresa (Burns) and Sam (Reed). … Lynn (Schulze) got us back into the game. When we were down by 11, she came through and scored six points closing the gap to five.” Belanger added that the officiating was “totally inconsistent and some of their key calls cost us.” Mary Ann Kowal paced the Blues with 18. Samantha Reed added 10. The Blues (coached by Michelle Belanger, assisted by Tom O’Brien) also included Theresa Burns, Nicki Berswick, Lynn Schulze, Anna Brozic, Adrienne Blenman, Nancy DeWaal, Jillian Matte, Carole Turcotte, Pat Melville.

In the bronze medal match, McMaster nipped Laurier 64-62 despite trailing 42-31 at the half. The Marauders roared back in the second half, scoring 10 unanswered to knot the score at 60 with 2:45 to play. McMaster took a two-point lead but Andrea Prescott hit a bucket to tie at 62 before the Marauders hit the winner with 28 seconds remaining on the clock. Nora Sheffe paced the Marauders with 21, while nabbing 10 boards. Prescott led the Golden Hawks with 23. The Golden Hawks (coached by Gary Jeffries, assisted by Fred Nichols and Clarke Eady) included Kris Peel, Colleen Ryan, Catherine Foulon, Xenia Arens, Renata Dykstra, Kim Fritzley, Lisa Hammond, Sue Little, Barb Lockhart, Kelly Lynch, Joan MacDonald, Lorraine Masterson, Sue Tonin and Ann Weber.

In the final, Laurentian defeated Brock 80-51 as Sandy Stevenson scored 17 and Ann Rimes 12. The Voyageurs led by 22 early and by 43-25 at the half. Brock rallied to within 11 in the second half but the Voyageurs promptly elevated the pace and pulled away down the stretch. Voyageur Carol Hamilton told the St. Catharines Standard “that’s what we wanted to do, make them run. We may not be a quick breaking team but we don’t think there’s anybody who can run with us for a whole game.” Sandy Stevenson was selected tournament MVP after scoring 44 points in three games. Badger Cheryl Hoekstra said “we were really intimidated at first. Then we realized they’re just another team. They’re good. They got strong people but we still think they can be beaten.”
