In the quarterfinals, held in Sudbury, the Toronto Varsity Blues defeated the McMaster Marauders 79-47. The Marauders (coached by Sue Lindley) included Mary Thompson, Linda Cunningham, Joan Cunningham, Tracey Billings, Tanya Edwards, Nancy Hyland, Karen Pronk, Kim Robertson, Nadine Crowley, Sylvia Zimmerman, Megan McKenna.

The Waterloo Athenas edged the York Lions 58-56 in overtime. The Yeowomen trailed by six late in the game but forced overtime on a free throw by Anne Marie Thuss. The Yeowomen (coached by Frances Flint) included Jean Graham, Paula Lockyer, Anne Marie Thuss, Sue De Ryck, Liz MacDonald, Michelle Sund, Anthea Hewitt, Wanda Pighin, Heather Reid, Nicky Smith, Cynthia Johnson, Theresa Dooley.

The Brock Badgers thrashed the Ottawa Gee-Gees 69-36 after leading 33-15 at the half. “We were pretty disappointed,” Gee-Gees coach and former Badger player Diane Hilko told the Ottawa Citizen. “We couldn’t get our game going, although the effort was there. … We forced them to shoot from the outside and they were making 22-footers with five seconds left on the clock.” Rachel Sheehan led the Gee-Gees with 14. Louise Dube added 12. The Gee-Gees (coached by Diane Hilko, managers Marielle Mietz and Mary Lee Smith, trainer Michele LePage) also included Diane Boisvert, Mary Hogan, Terry Gollert, Coretta Williams, Tracey Prentice, Alana McNamara, Natalie-France Roger, Kelly Laurence, Sarah Torrible and Randa Zeitoun.

In the last quarterfinal, Laurentian whipped Western 84-67. The Mustangs (coached by Bill Pangos, assisted by Nancy O’Shea, managed by Kelly Robinson and trained by Francine Beck) included Karyn Mitchell, Tracey DeSutter, Nancy Lemon, Nancy Unruh, Leslie Petter, Maria Fabbro, Linnea Campbell, Jacki McKinnon, Tracy Pratt, Michelle Seguin, Dana Sheaton, Tanya Wheeler and Cathy Brewer.

       In the semis, Toronto crushed Waterloo 89-43.

       In the other semi, Laurentian walloped Brock 63-46 as Carol Hamilton scored 25, while nabbing 19 boards, and Anne Rimes 13. Carolyn Foreman led the Badgers with 12. Heidi Molloh added 10 and Linda Savel 9.

       In the bronze medal match, Brock whipped Waterloo 65-52 as Linda Savel scored 16, Yvonne Doodeman 12 and Carolyn Foreman 12. Corinna Lueg led the Warriors with 12. Kim Rau added 10 and Cindy Poag 10. The Athenas (coached by Sally Kemp, assisted by Warren Sutton) also included Brenda Bowering, Karen Wilkinson, Sheila Windle, Adele Daly, Selena Davis, Lois Smith, Pat Rodger, Kerry Doherty, Michelle Campbell and Karen Maedus.

       In the final, Toronto defeated Laurentian 71-60 as Peggy Blumenthal scored 20. Neither squad a lead of more than three points for most of the affair before the Blues took command down the stretch. “Three or four minutes is a long time to go for us,” Blues coach Michele Belanger told the Varsity. “We understand the clock and remain calm, cool, and patient. … We had a psychological lift because of our victories against them (during the regular season). It really put the pressure on Laurentian.” Post Angela Orton said “now playing Laurentian is something to look forward to instead of something to be afraid of.” The Voyageurs led 33-32 at the half. “We were a little nervous I think,” said Orton. “But it was always within reach.” Peggy Blumenthal notched three points to ignite a 13-2 Blues run in the final minutes of play. Carol Hamilton paced the Voyageurs with 23.

       After the season, York coach Frances Flint announced that she was going on sabbatical and educational leave to pursue a PhD or an MD.
