       In the opening round, McMaster (1st, Tier 2) defeated Waterloo (7th, Tier 1) 64-47 as Nancy Fowler scored 12, Val Gibson 10 and Patti Fairfax 10. The loss relegated the Athenas to Tier 2 in 1982. The Athenas (coached by Sally Kemp) included Linda Bowden, Jennifer Russell, Annelise Dyck, Patti Edwards, Beth Parsons, Robin Holmes, Robin Burgess, Karen Chapman, Mary Daniels, Jill Fisher, Victoria Hunter, Mary Beth Karhous, Tan Cheng Liang, Joanne Reffle and Anneliese Dyck.

In the other opening round game, Ottawa (2nd, Tier 2) defeated Brock (6th, Tier 1) 67-66 as Linda Mercier scored 26, Sue Herrick 12 and Terry Hannon 12. The Badgers led 33-32 at the half. Maureen Kelly paced the Badgers with 33. Diane Hiko added 15, Melanie Brown 7 and Patty Stamps 7. With the loss the Badgers were relegated to tier 2 for the 81-82 campaign. The Badgers (coached by Pat Woodburn) included Peggy Stamps, Trudy Mantel, Melanie Brown, Lenna Olszewski.

       In round two, the Western Mustangs (4th, Tier 1) defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 55-49 as Donna Campbell scored 14, Lynn Noftele 11 and Carolyn Hurst 10. Tish Hannon led the Gee-Gees with 17. Luce Mercier added 11. The Gee-Gees (coached by Erik Anderson, assisted by Wanda Pilon) also included Tish Hannon, Patricia Hannon, Sue Racine, Ruth Fretts, Sandy Entwhistle, Debby Tully, Angelina Pompeo, Linda Smith, Jan Carwardine, Sandy Herrick, Lynda Callaghan, Shannon Quinn, Carm Timpani, Charlotte Guimond and Elizabeth Arnold.

In the other round two match, Toronto (5th, Tier 1) defeated McMaster 59-45 (also reported as 59-44) s Pat Neville scored 15 and Linda Baumann 8. The Blues went on a 25-2 run after going to a zone press in the second half. Nancy Fowler led the Marauders with 10. Julie Allen added 10 and Patti Fairfax 8. Marauders coach Cathie Miller told the Hamilton Spectator that “we could have beaten that team. We were even them in the first half. Our girls are kicking themselves.” The Marauders led 26-21 at the half. The Marauders (coached by Miller) also included Sandy Reynolds, Patty Koudys, Val Gibson, Tracy McNairn, Cecily Steeb and Sylvia Zimmerman.

       In the regional final/provincial quarterfinal, Western nipped Toronto 48-47. Blues post Pat Melville was whistled for a foul on a blocked shot with no time on the clock, which allowed the Mustangs to pull out the win with a pair of free throws. The Varsity Blues (coached by Michele Belanger) also included Greta Delonghi, Linda Baumann, Sylvia Duckworth, Laura Dampf.

       In the Ontario semis, Guelph defeated York 52-44 after leading 22-18 at the half. Karen Grisewood led the Gryphons with 19. Kim Holden led the Lions with 11. In the other Ontario semi, host Laurentian stomped Western 76-50 by deploying a tight zone which forced the Mustangs strictly to the perimeter, where the shot ball extremely poorly.

       In the bronze medal match, Elaine Stewart hit a bucket with three seconds to play to give York a 67-66 win over Western. Barb Whibbs led the Lions with 26. Lions coach Frances Flint told The Excalibur that “the game was a tough fight to the end. We want the banner so much that we can taste it. It’s disappointing but the experience gained will benefit them next year.” B.J. Forsythe led the Mustangs with 18. The Mustangs (coached by Mary Reizebos, assisted by Jane Riddell) also included Lynn Noftle, Suzy Wilson, Nancy Lemon, Cathy Brabant, Deanne Campbell, Deanne Campbell, Gill Cox, Sandy Demaree, Debbie Gray, Harriet Loyer, Kim Pickell and Carolyn Hurst.

       In the championship final, Laurentian defeated Guelph 70-46 to win its sixth title in seven years. Rookie Joy Bellinger paced the Lady Vees with 19 points, along with 6 boards. Linda Palango added 10 and Barb Tucker 10. Joanne Hurd paced Guelph with 14.

       After the season, McMaster replaced Cathie Miller with Bill Fowler (coach of the men for the previous 15 years) at the helm.

       Glynne Turner resigns at Carleton to become a stockbroker. She is replaced by former Raven all-star Paul Armstrong.
