In the opening round of the playoffs, Waterloo defeated Brock x-x. The Badgers including Wendy Wells, Paula Finnie, Dawn Ball, Linda Woodhouse, Louise Wetherell, Melanie Brown, Mauren Dugo, Donna Skinner
In the Ontario quarterfinals, the University of Western Mustangs defeated the Queen’s Golden Gaels 64-54. The Golden Gaels included Eva Stewart.
In the other quarterfinal, Ottawa defeated Waterloo 80-62. Chris Timms paced the Athenas with 14. Carol Kozlik added 11 and Bonnie Zagrodney 10. The Athenas (coached by Sally Kemp) also included Sue Lindley, Norie Spence, Sue Porter, Lucy Patterson, Jan McMullen, Marg Kerr, Louise Taylor, Lorraine Luypaert, Shellie Filion and Shelly Filion.
In the Ontario semis, Laurentian whipped the University of Western Ontario Mustangs 67-36.
In the other semi, the Guelph Gryphons dumped the Ottawa Gee-Gees 60-48.
In the bronze medal match, the Ottawa Gee-Gees defeated the University of Western Ontario Mustangs 57-51. The Mustangs (coached by Noralie Jackett, assisted by Diane Cowden) included Jill Finlon, Marty Desmaree, Sherry Findlater, Anne Fulton, Debbie Grey, Annette Holmes, Ingrid Nemeth, Joanne Porter, Sue Riach, Sue Swain, Holly Wickett and Suzy Wilson.
In the final, the Laurentian Lady Voyageurs captured its fifth consecutive title by dumping the Guelph Gryphons 57-47.
After the 1978 season, Chris Critelli left Laurentian to enroll at Old Dominion, where she and fellow Canadian Jan Trombly led ODU to a national U.S. title.
