OQWIAA

       In the OQWIAA, Windsor and Waterloo tied for the Western division regular season title. In the postseason playoffs, the top three teams from the west and east divisions play for the championship, while the remaining five teams play for consolation honours. If there is a tie atop the standings after the interlocking play, a one-game final is to be held.

       In the west division, Wilfrid Laurier and Laurentian have a playoff to determine which squad qualified for the championship side of the draw. The Golden Hawks defeated the Voyageurs x-x.

Both Windsor and Waterloo finished undefeated with 3-0 records against the East division representatives, necessitating a one-game playoff for the crown.

In the final, Windsor defeated Waterloo 43-36. The Athenas led 15-7, 24-19 and 32-31 at the quarters but folded down the stretch. The Lancerettes used a second half press to rally themselves, tying the game on field goals by Cookie Leach and Joanne Lazarus in the final two minutes. They then intercepted passes and converted them into layups by Karen Fleming and Kate Innes. Karen Flemming led all scorers with 9, Lazarus 9, Cookie Leach 8, Kate Innes 5, Marilyn Hyatt 5, Katy Murdoch 5, Melanie Middleton 5. Charlotte Shaule paced the Athenas with 14.

       An unofficial Quebec league was played in 1970 and 1971, with teams from Macdonald, Montreal, Carleton, Sir George Williams and Loyola. In 1970, Macdonald won with a (7-1) record.

Laurentian fields its first team. Known as the Vendettas (coached by Pat Pickard), they included Lynn Somers, Carmen Landry, Joanne McKinnon, Pat Smith, Roberta O’Donahue, Cheryl Mclean, Pat Irwin, Valerie Chinn, Janet Howley, Jean Stricek and Alexis Speck. A year later, the Voyageurs joined the OQWIAA, hiring Sandy Knox from Carleton to be the coach.
