In the WIBL semis, held in London, Western defeated Queen’s 49-28 after leading 17-16 at the half. Joanne Castle led the Mustangettes with 21. Barb Claire paced the Gaels with 11. Betty Jean Hardie added 8, Diane Barras 5 and Barb Bell 4.
In the other semi, Toronto edged McGill 35-32 as Mary Winship scored 14 and Sally Wallace 7.
In the bronze medal match, Queen’s defeated McGill 54-42. Diane Barras led the Golden Gaels with 18. Betty Jean Hardie added 17, Barb Bell 5 and Mary Lyons 2. The Martlets (coached by P Walker and managed by Gana Kunce) included Virginia Carter, Dolores Davidson, Joan Johnstone, Dorothy May, Jane McNab, Betty Muir, Anne Rowe, Shannon Stone, Anne Turnbull, Dorothy Underhill, D Elkington and Elspeth Wright.
In the final, Western captured its first crown since 1940 by edging Toronto 30-26 as Jeanne Castle scored 12, Beth McLean 8, Ardeth Crich 6 and Pat Cooper 4. The Mustangs led 12-0 after one quarter. Pat Swayze led Toronto with 8. Mary Winship added 5 and Sally Wallace 5.
