In the semis, Queen’s clipped Western 23-17 as Molly McConnell scored 10, Daria Shoemaker 5, Smith 4, McCrimmon 3, Radcliffe 2 and Gael Gibson 1, while Mary Gibson, Anne Hunt, Shaw, Bryant and Beckett were scoreless. Crich led Western with 7. Ford added 4, Gerhardt 3, McMillan 3 and Kohl 1, while Lanning, Coster, Conway, Denneson, Kryzankowski, DeMaiter and Janet McNeil were scoreless.
In the other semi, McGill edged Toronto 29-28 after leading 14-8 at the half. Ruth Welsman hit a free throw to give McGill a three-point lead with seconds to play before Carolyn Dobson drilled a bucket at the buzzer to trim the final margin to one. Welsam led McGill with 15. Thompson added 5, Cleugh 4, Moore 3 and Bryce 2, while Machan, Thomas, Allin, Brown, Dubruile, Harrison, Rutherford and Christiansen were scoreless. Hatch paced Toronto with 14. Dobson added 7, Wallace 6 and Mooney 1, while Walker, Roberts, McDonald, Chipman, Lewis, Capel, Sarles and Wade were scoreless.
In the bronze medal match, Toronto stomped Western 43-21 as Sally Wallace scored 13, Alma Hatch 10, P Walker 7, S Roberts 6, C Dobson 4 and J Mooney 3, while M McDonald, H Chipman, M Lewis, M Capel, S Sarles and B Wade were scoreless. Ardeth Critch paced the Mustangs with 10. J McMillan added 4, M Kohl 3, B Ford 2 and A Gerhardt 2, while N Lanning, Joan Coster, M Conway, D Demart, J Denneson, Stephanie Kryzanowski and Janet McNeil were scoreless.
In the final, Queen’s edged McGill 36-34 in double-overtime. The teams traded 7-0 runs to open the affair and then traded the lead for most of the affair. Anne Thompson forced overtime by hitting a free throw for McGill to knot the score at 28 with one second on the clock. Jean Machan hit a bucket for the Redmen to knot the score at 31 and force an extra session. Molly McConnell and Daria Shoemaker scored for the Gaels as they held on for the win as Marie Beckett and Lois Berger played keepaway down the stretch to prevent the Martlets from gaining possession of the ball. Daria Shoemaker paced the Gaels with 16. P Radcliffe added 8, McConnell 7, B Smith 3 and M Gibson 2, while J McCrimmon, A Hunt, M Shaw, B Bryant, G Gibson, M Beckett and M Hodgson were scoreless. R Welsman led McGill with 9. J Machan added 6, R Moore 5, R Bryce 4, J Thompson 3, while 5 points were unallocated, and W Cleugh, G Thomas, J Allen, C Brown, G Dubrule, C Harrison, L Rutherford and E Christensen were scoreless.
After the tournament, McMaster “challenged” Queen’s for the Bronze Baby, despite having been pounded 36-22 by the Gaels a month earlier. The Gaels prevailed 49-31 as Pat Radcliffe scored 24 and Daria Shoemaker 12. Evelyn Veale led the Marauders with 14. The Marauders also included Dorothy Burton, Joyce Hender, Lois Pound.
