Western enters the regular season with a 6-4 record predominately against American competition. Led by Bob Phibbs and again coached by Johnny Metras, the Mustangs again breezed to an undefeated (6-0) record.
In league play: …………………………………………………… In their season opener against Toronto at Hart House, the visiting Western Mustangs defeated the Varsity Blues 59-52 as Bob Phibbs, Al Scorgie and Dick Farley ran amok and George Wearring controlled the boards on both ends of the floor. Toronto hung with Western until the final quarter and even led early 6-0. But Western clawed back to a 25-24 lead at the half and took command in the final frame. Bob Phibbs paced Western with 15 points. George Wearring added 11, Dick Farley 9, Bill Gauld 3, Scott 5, Paul Thomas 4, Al Scorgie 9. Barry Lowes led Toronto with 14. After the season, Queen’s hired Frank Tindall to be its football coach. A year later, in 1948-49, he assumed the helm of the basketball team as well.
