Toronto breezed through the league with a (5-1) record. Nine of the 10 Varsity Blues came off championship squads. Six were returnees from the 1928 intercollegiate champs. They added J.C. Murray and George O’Leary from the Windsor Alumni, the Canadian senior champions in 1928. Freshman Ray Beaton was member of the Walkerville Collegiate team which had won the Canadian Interscholastic championships in 1928. Midway through the season, O’Leary broke both arms and was out for most of season, except the final game. “This left the brunt of the offensive work to Capt. ‘Mo’ Mitchell; Ray Beaton and Earl Davey. Wilf Newman was a tower of strength in the pivot position, and due to Gord Johnston’s injuries, played the majority of the time. The heavy portion of the defensive work fell on the shoulders of Ray Currie and Johnny Murray, with Ben Sakler and S. Hurwitz as capable substitutes. A great share of the credit for the majority of our victories goes to these men,” said the Varsity.
The non-medalist Western Mustangs: Meyer, W Young, Edwin Hauch, Ladouceur, Stew Ward, H ‘Alvie’ Hind, Paul Hauch, Guy Hauch, coach Jack Lang, manager J Vatz
