Alberta swept Lethbridge 72-39 and 71-46. …………………………………………………… In game one, Alberta prevailed 72-39 as rookie point guard Karen Johnson from Cambridge, Ontario, controlled the tempo and distributed the ball with aplomb, while scoring 14. Alberta forced 39 turnovers, while committing 24, and shot 40% to Lethbridge’s 28%. Alberta swept Calgary 75-49 and 60-43. …………………………………………………… In game one, Alberta prevailed 75-49. Amanda Holloway scored the game’s first eight points and the Pandas built their lead to 37-27 at the half. Alberta ripped off a 17-0 run in the second half to take command. “We looked for our running game more than we have in the past,” said Pandas coach Debbie Shogan. Both teams shot 29% from the floor. Calgary committed 42 turnovers and Alberta 28, while outrebounding the Dinow 53-44. Amanda Holloway led Alberta with 19 points and 11 boards. Karen Johnson and Chris Leiske each added 10. Jacky Shaw led Calgary with 13 points and 18 boards. …………………………………………………… In game two, Alberta prevailed 60-43. Calgary played a zone in hopes of slowing down Alberta, to little avail. Alberta shot 32%, while Calgary shot 34%. Alberta outrebounded Calgary 40-35. Amanda Holloway led Alberta with 18. Amanda Thorpe led Calgary with 12.
Victoria swept Alberta 53-21 and 34-30. …………………………………………………… In game one, Victoria prevailed 53-21 after leading 25-10 at the half and holding the Pandas to 5-of-38 from the floor. Alberta missed its first 21 shots of the second half and finished shooting 13% on the night. Mary Ann Longmore led the Vikings with 11. Leslie Godfrey added 9 and Loran McHattie 9. Amanda Holloway paced the Bears with 5. Alberta coach Debbie Shogan said “everyone was hyper before the game but just couldn’t channel it.” …………………………………………………… In game two, Victoria edged Alberta 34-30 after leading 16-12 at the half. The Vikettes extended their lead to 12 but Alberta rallied to within four on a nifty passing playing between Amanda Holloway, Deena Mitchell and Nicole Robert. Holloway added two free throws to trim the margin to two with two minutes to play but the Vikettes held on for the win. Marg Mainwaring led Victoria with 11. Holloway led the pandas with 14. Victoria shot 23%, while Alberta shot 21%.
Alberta split with Saskatchewan 53-54 and 51-42. …………………………………………………… In game one, Saskatchewan prevailed 54-53 as the Pandas suffered what coach Debbie Shogan called “a total lack of concentration.” They missed a raft of easy layups while building a 24-23 lead at the half. Alberta extended its lead to 10 but the Huskies rallied within two on several Panda defensive lapses and then knotted the score at 43. Saskatchewan took a 53-51 lead with 26 seconds to play. Jennifer Cooper knotted the score with 9 seconds to play but then fouled Cathy Erskine after being beaten on a layup. Erskine hit both free throws. Nancy Brentnell, Teri Duke and Donna Colburn each scored 10 for Saskatchewan. Amanda Holloway led Alberta with 20 points and 11 boards. …………………………………………………… In game two, Alberta prevailed 51-42 after leading 35-16 at the half. But the Huskiettes rallied with a 19-0 run before Amanda Holloway scored seven straight to prevent another upset. Holloway finished with 19 points while shooting 62% from the floor. Nancy Brentnell scored 12 for the Huskies, who shot 13%.
Alberta split with host UBC winning 61-58 and losing 59-55. …………………………………………………… In game one, Alberta prevailed 61-58. “It’s the first time in six year I’ve a game in here (War Memorial Gym) as a player or a coach,” said Alberta coach Debbie Shogan. Panda Amanda Holloway drew three quick fouls in the first three minutes and UBC consequently built a 10-point lead. But Holloway returned to the floor to ignite an 11-2 run as Alberta took a 32-31 lead at the half. Tara Smith hit a bucket to give UBC a three-point lead but Holloway scored six straight to give Alberta a six-point lead. UBC rallied to within one with 25 seconds to play but Karen Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 11 seconds to play to ice it. At the time, international rules allowed the fouled team to take the ball or the free throws and Shogan allowed Johnson to shoot. Amanda Holloway led Alberta with 17. Lori Chizik added 11. Sharon Williams paced UBC with 15. …………………………………………………… In game two, UBC prevailed 59-55. Amanda Holloway again picked up three quick fouls in the first few minutes but Lori Chizik came off the bench to score 14 as Alberta built a 31-19 lead at the half. UBC’s constant pressure began to wear down the Pandas in the second half. Alberta led 53-47 with five minutes to play but UBC exploded for 10 unanswered points and held on for the win. Louisa Zerbe led UBC with 15. Sharon Williams added 13. The Thunderettes (coached by Sue Evans Bjarnason) also included Judi Ruby, Doretta Smith, Tara Smith, Sara Lindsay, Carol Wilson, Rose Sebellin, Laurie Watson, Laura Stewart, Pat Walker and Karen Morley. Alberta clocked Lethbridge 69-47 and 59-50. …………………………………………………… In game one, Alberta prevailed 69-47 as Amanda Holloway scored 24 against Lethbridge post Connie Frouws. The Pandas quickly built a 14-point lead but Lethbridge rallied to within 35-28 at the half. Chris Leiske added 14, Lori Chizik 13 and Nora Way 11. Lori Lilja led Lethbridge with 11. …………………………………………………… In game two, Alberta prevailed 59-50 in a parade to the foul line. Lethbridge led 24-21 at the half but Alberta ripped off a 17-0 run early in the second half. The Pronghornettes rallied to within three and had a chance to draw a point on a technical against Alberta coach Debbie Shogan. But the Pandas responded with an 8-0 run to ice it. Alberta made 33 trips to the line. Amanda Holloway paced Alberta with 20 but hit only 8-of-17 from the line. Chris Leiske added 10 and Nora Way 10. Lori Lilja led Lethbridge with 11. Lethbridge shot 32%, while Alberta shot 27% and outrebounded the Pronghornettes 40-36. Lethbridge had 37 turnovers and Alberta 29. Alberta hit 17-of-33 from the line, while Lethbridge was 6-of-9.
Alberta swept Calgary 56-48 and 89-50. In game one, Alberta prevailed 56-48 in a game Alberta coach Debbie Shogan called dull. “They play a zone defence and it’s kind of boring to watch a team that employs a zone. I know I didn’t like playing against a zone.” Alberta led 31-14 at the half as Amanda Holloway scored 14. Calgary rallied to within seven in the second half. Shogan said her troops were inconsistent. Deena Mitchell said the Pandas effort level wasn’t there. ‘I’m disappointed that this team can’t play 40 minutes of good basketball.” Both teams shot 30%, while Alberta outrebounded Calgary 51-35. Holloway paced Alberta with 22. Chris Leiske added 14. Dominique Varem, Shirley Booth and Jacky Shaw each scored 10 for Calgary. …………………………………………………… In game two, Alberta scored a season high 89 while stomping Calgary 89-50. Calgary coach Marilyn McNeil said her troops didn’t defend anyone. Alberta led 39-26 at the half. Amanda Holloway paced Alberta with 32. Chris Leiske added 16, Kathy Weber 11 and Karen Johnson 10. Jacky Shaw led Calgary with 10. Alberta shot 33-of-96 (.340), while Calgary hit .310. Alberta hit 23-of-34 from the line, while Calgary was 14-of-24.

Saskatchewan split with Calgary, winning 74-52 and losing 61-50. …………………………………………………… In game one, Saskatchewan bombed Calgary 74-52 after leading 28-27 at the half. …………………………………………………… In game two, Calgary clipped Saskatchewan 61-50. The Dinosaurs hit 12 of their first 15 shots and led 41-24 at the half. Although Saskatchewan countered with a 16-2 run in the second half to close within three, the Dinosaurs held on for the win. Jacky Shaw led the Dinosaurs with 14, along with 21 boards. Shirley Booth added 12. The Dinosaurs hit 22-77 from the field. Teri Duke and Nancy Brentnell each scored 12 to lead the Huskies.
U.B.C. split with Calgary, losing 61-58 and winning 66-32. …………………………………………………… In game one, Calgary prevailed 61-58 in overtime as Brenda Thorpe scored six points in the extra session. The Dinosaurs rallied from a late 8-point deficit to knot the score at 52 and force overtime. Jacky Shaw led the Dinosaurs with 15, along 14 boards. Lori Nelson added 13 and Brenda Thorpe 12. Calgary led 27-23 at the half. Sharon Williams led the Thunderettes with 14. Calgary hit 13-25 from the line, while U.B.C. hit 10-12 (.830). …………………………………………………… In game two, U.B.C. clocked Calgary 66-32. The Dinosaurs went scoreless for 9 minutes in the first half and fell behind 42-14 heading into the lockers. Sharon Williams led the Thunderettes with 14. Jacky Shaw paced the Dinosaurs with 10.
Saskatchewan defeated Calgary 73-43 and 64-53. …………………………………………………… Saskatchewan bombed Calgary 73-43 after leading 28-21 at the half. But they quickly extended their lead to 58-21 as Calgary repeatedly coughed up the ball. “We forgot to come out of the dressing room,” Dinosaurs coach Marilyn MacNeil told the Gauntlet. Nancy Brentnell led the Huskies with 15. Donna Colborn added 12. Tina Nickolychuk led the Dinosaurs with 12. Lori Nelson added 9. …………………………………………………… In game two, Saskatchewan clipped Calgary 64-53. The Dinosaurs broke to a 9-0 lead but trailed 32-25 at the half. Nancy Brentnell paced the Huskies with 15. Donna Colborn added 14. Jacky Shaw led the Dinosaurs with 15. Shirley Booth added 7 and Darla Wilson 7.
Victoria swept Calgary 80-37 and 60-18.
Host Victoria swept Alberta 74-61 and 64-40. …………………………………………………… In game one, Victoria prevailed 74-61 after leading 37-35 at the half. The Pandas took a four-point lead in the second half but Leslie Godfrey six unanswered as Victoria took command. “She’s just a very good player,” said Alberta coach Debbie Shogan. “She just beat her opponent one on one and in the defence we were playing, someone is supposed to come over and help out. That didn’t happen, so she was successful.” Alberta drew no closer than four. Shogan said “most of their points came from crashing rebounds and loose balls. They’re so ball conscious.” Victoria outrebounded Alberta 50-33, while ripping down 13 on the offensive glass. Marg Mainwaring paced Victoria with 22 on 11-12 from the floor. Leslie Godfrey added 18. Lori Chizik paced Alberta with 19. Amanda Holloway added 18. …………………………………………………… In game two, Victoria swamped Alberta 64-40. The Vikettes opened with an 8-0 run. Alberta rallied with its own 8-0 run but then Victoria ripped off a 22-9 run to take a 30-17 lead at the half. Alberta never threatened. Victoria outshot Alberta 40% to 26% and outrebounded the Pandas 34-29. Lorna McHattie led Victoria with 12. Leslie Godfrey added 10. Amanda Holloway paced Alberta with 11. Nora Way added 8.
Alberta closed out the season by splitting with Saskatchewan, winning 61-54 and then losing 70-51.
