Edmonton led 67-65 after three quarters. Player of the game Mychal Mulder nailed a corner trey to win the match for the Bandits. “I was spaced properly … and Shamar (Givance) made the right read and kicked it out to me, and I was able to knock it down,” he said. “Our entire fourth quarter is a testament to how we fight and how you pull a win out.” Vancouver Bandits general manager Kyle Julius, who returned to coaching duties for the semi after having stepped aside earlier in the season after accepting a coaching position in China and being replaced by assistant Rans Brempong, said “just win the day. Sea Bear Simon Hildebrandt said “we’ve battled a lot of adversity this year. It’s been our goal since day one. Playing as a true team today, we made it work. … We had so many guys come in and give big contributions. That next man up mentality was just unbelievable.” Vancouver coach Kyle Julius said “we had a couple of defensive assignment game plan pieces that I thought we just did not ever execute. They jumped on us right from the start and had more energy. … This group (today) is way better than the Winnipeg we played the other day because of him (Trey McGowens). I thought he was the X factor — the way he plays, the toughness he has, the athleticism. He gave them a lot of life. The way he played, created a lot of opportunities. … You have to give him (Simon Hildebrandt) a lot of credit … he absolutely killed us. The best-of-three championship finals were converted into a single-game final in Winnipeg after the floor of Brampton’s CAA Centre was declared unsafe because of condensation on the court.
In the final, the Winnipeg Sea Bears dispatched the Brampton Honey Badgers 98-84. The Honey Badgers led 24-20 after one quarter. The Sea Bears led 46-42 at the half and 73-60 after three quarters. Winnipeg led 88-74 at target time. Postseason MVP Xavier Moon took command down the stretch, notching a layup and a pair of treys as Winnipeg pulled away from the Honey Badgers. Sea Bear Simon Hildegrandt notched the winner with a corner trey. “I don’t know how to put into words,” Hildebrandt said. “I’m so fortunate to just play in my hometown for an organization like this, and have an opportunity to be on the floor, and Target Score of the Finals like this, and like I said, being from here, and being put in the opportunities to be successful by my teammates and my coaches around me is just unbelievable.” Moon said “it’s crazy to be back in this environment again. I mean, obviously, familiar territory for me for winning, but to do it in a city that’s never won a playoff game, I think it means a lot more. This one is a lot more special than the first one. So, like I’ve been saying, man, I’m happy for my teammates, and I’m happy for the city of Winnipeg. … Adversity is always going to be a part of your path, and I think it’s no different than anything else in life. Nothing really worth accomplishing is easy. It does definitely reveal the character of the people in our locker room that we believed that we could get it done, and now we have.” Sea Bears coach Mike Raimbault said “I’m just super happy for everybody that is out there celebrating today and that it came to fruition because the organization did definitely deserve a championship.” Honey Badger Sean East II said “we fought hard. We dealt with adversity. Not the outcome we wanted.
