In summer 1961, the CWIAU adopted an eligibility rule obligating all members to participate in three sports, basketball, football and hockey. Manitoba was extremely upset, as it didn’t play football, and withdrew from the league. U.B.C. hadn’t played hockey. Alberta and Saskatchewan played all three sports. Manitoba claims it was “cast out of the league.” U.B.C. swept through the league.
Calgary joins the league and then known as the University of Alberta-Calgary campus. The Dinosaurs played only what was deemed an “exhibition” schedule in that they were ineligible for the crown, should they have won it. The Calgary Dinosaurs (coached by former Alberta Golden Bear John Dewar, manager Bruce Hedderick, assistant manager Andy van Goar) included Jack Kenyon, Kit Lefroy, Al Davis, C’man Jokal, George Jacobs, Steve Sparks, Richard King, Bob Babki, Ken Myhre, Don Wares, Frank Peto, Dave Holmes, John Proctor.
