The Bears forced overtime by knotting the score at 55 with just under a minute to play. Manitoba twice took a three point lead in the extra session but Jack Hicken and Don Munro hit buckets to give Alberta the lead. Gord Fester scored the winner on a putback rebound dunk with 20 seconds to play. Dave Thomson came off the bench to score 18 for the Bears, his season high, before being hauled off the court in overtime with a twisted knee, on a play on which he was called for charging. Alberta was awarded only one two shot foul during the game. The Bears were called for 21 fouls and the Bisons 10.         Through the years, UBC had mixed success in American conferences. In 1946, UBC was Pacific Northwest Conference champ with 9-1 record, coached by Bob Osborne. In 1952, UBC was 1-26 overall, finishing 0-12 (7th) in Evergreen Conference. In 1955, UBC was 4-13 overall, finishing 2-10 (last) in Evergreen play.
